Suggestions for a response to Yamaha

Only suggestion I can think of at this point: Ask the dealer if used parts would suffice until the new parts arrive. New parts may not be in inventory, but the salvage yards must have something to get your bike running. Lord knows there's enough crashed FJR's out there....

    WTF is this noise?

Not necessarily. Why not try throwing a can of Sea-Foam at it? If you did pull up some water or sludge, it could still be in the injection system. It just seems odd that the bike was fine until it ran super low on fuel. I always try to think of what changed since the bike last ran normal. Also...

    Welcome Everyone

Y'know, the Yamaha cover ain't all that bad. Has an expandable section for the top case (if you have one), fits the bike nice and it does have protection inside for the windshield. It even works with oversize shields. FWIW, YMMV, IMHO, and all the other confusing-to-new-guy acronyms apply. :)

    We Lost a Friend

I've never bothered posting in any of the "RIP" threads before, mostly because I really didn't know what to say with any sincerity about someone I only knew through the forum. But this is different. Andrew's posts were something I always looked forward to. Each time I saw his avatar, my heart...

    Which side of lane?

WOOF! Can't believe it took so many posts for someone to say this! But then there was the rather significant and entertaining avatar to discuss. WOOF to that as well!

    Wich heated gloves ?

Ummm, that'd be Gerbing's - I think you've been eating baby food??? Yuck!! Anyway, I've got some Gerbing's heated gloves. They make nice stuff. I use the gloves on a snowmobile.

Anyone ever changed the clutch plates on an FJR?

I'd be really surprised if you fried the clutch while slow racing. Very good odds it's glazed instead. The FSM should have wear limits for plate thickness so you'll know what's up. I'd go in and measure before buying parts. I put a clutch in a Concours once, thinking that with 50K miles it MUST...

    Fog free helmet needed

If you really want to be done with fogging in cold weather without cracking the shield open, try using the stuff snowmobilers use: 1) You can use an electronically heated face shield 2) Look at the Bombardier (Ski-Doo) BV2S helmet. It uses an adjustable soft rubber face mask so that 100% of...

    2008 Redbull Indianapolis GP

Hmmm, kinda funny you guys all picked the grandstand sections. My first pick was the Corner 7 Terrace. I figure I'll have easier access to pits and easier access to move around to different corners during race/practice. The Grandstand seating is better for the 500, but I think the infield stuff...

    Letter of appreciation to Yamaha

LET THE SUN SHINE IN MAKE IT WITH A GRIN OPEN UP YOUR HEART AND LET THE SUN SHINE IN Since that last post about the sun shining in, I can't get this ******* song out of my head. Now it's in yours too!! :clapping:

    Spark Plug Changes

There's nothing wrong with exchanging experiences, but it's helpful if people understand which pieces of information have the most (or the least) value, and why. That's why I posted. In any discussion of product performance, whether it's tires, plugs, oil, or whatever, it helps if one...

    Interesting Machine

I bet it started out with "honey, how come you never go riding with me?" Soon after, the kitchen sink was invited along to the party. Interesting, but you couldn't pay me to drive/ride it.

    Spark Plug Changes

I'll toss in a few general points to ponder: 1. Comparing performance of plugs used in a car vs those used in a bike like the FJR is kinda pointless. Cars run at generally lower RPM than the FJR, hence their plugs fire far less often per mile. This may not ALWAYS be true, but it is generally...

NHTSA & IIHS looking out for our best interest

There will be some interesting legal points coming forth as things move forward with this. In general, it seems like the only way to really prevent drunk driving, but it does take implied consent to a new level. And one has to wonder, if an officer sees you blow into the unit, and fail, and then...

    Sudden (ish) oil usage..

How can it possibly be that a bloke from England knows less about oil leaks/loss than a bunch of Yanks? I only ask because I own a Norton  OK, smartass comments aside, oil leakage could go to the following areas (possibly without you noticing) 1. Into the coolant (internal gasket...

    closed batterys

Mine always seem to last right up to the point that the bike won't turn over anymore, then I have to change the battery. I've tried to make them last longer, but no dice. OK, sorry for being such a smartass.... If you can get near the battery with the bike running you can evaluate the...

    Black FJR

A black FJR. Cool. Sprinkle it liberally with chrome (NOT silver, gimme a break, anyone knows you put chome with black, fer chrissakes). Then remove the mufflers altogether. Add a supercharger and ride the Total Hooligan FJR. Drool. Okay, it's a childish, irresponsible dream, but it's mine...

    Lawnmower DUI

Plus it was probably a lot more fun to spray him, get him all pissed off and wrestle him to the ground. He won't remember it anyway, so what the hell? Just letting him piss and arresting him would have been way too boring. Also, the resisting arrest part will look better on the police report...
