135 lb. female on an FJR?

My daughter who is now 26 was riding a GPZ 550 when she was 16, and a trip to deals gap, when she was 17 a trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway on a Bandit 1200 that was substantially modified and that same year with confidence a Kawasaki Concours. She had the advantage of being 5' 11" but still very...

    Computer MPG vs Actual MPG

I've just completed a 3,800 mile work trip, saddle bags, top box and tail pack, K&N, PC111, Custom Map, Two Brothers. All kinds or roads from back country to free way, driving with economy in mind and I have a trip average of 43 mpg. This on a 2005, I weigh 215 at 6'1". Tires will last 7,000...

    New 2005 small problems.

Buy some longer nuts for the windshield and add 3/4" OF WASHERS to lift the front of the windshield up, make a tremendous difference to the heat and of course a short windscreen will also help. Neville

    Bumpy/Uneven road feeling!

At 30,000 miles I had a problem with my front forks that baffled me and one shop, ended up taking it to Donelsons. The symptom was a forward and back motion which suggested that the fork was not compliant, i.e. to mush high speed damping. The fork was literally flexing forward and back. What...

    ABM rotors have excessive movement

Rotors are a fairly well understood subject at the track, the wavy washer behind the disc are replaced at the track on a regular basis, retainers removed and replaced with after market items. However fitment of rotors by some of us amateurs can cause problems. EBC will tell you that you...

    OK you twisty hotdogs

2 hours and 41 minutes will put you at Wolf Run State Park south of Cambridge. Some of the best most technical roads in the US exist down here, we typically make a three day weekend of it and are seldom bored with the roads. Interesting country side, a variety of roads, in Ohio you have it...

    Wilber Failures?

My Wilbers was 100 and so soft I had 3.5" of sag with a passenger on full preload, just put on a 130 and with me only on the bike can and no pre-load I have barely 1.5" of sag, rides well, no leaks so far at 24000 miles. Neville

    Suspension Tuning

I wrote this some years ago and it seemed to help with basic understanding and allow riders to set up their bikes. When starting from scratch I always set the pre-load, its easier with a little help to do the rear. I set the rebound in the mid position and keep the compression damping off...

05 vs 06..will I need to change the seat and screen??

Whats up with the screen on the beyond 05 models which I like by the way. Neville

    Screen up = more heat

The higher the screen the lower the pressure behind the screen. I like it in cold weather. In hot weather I put 6 thick washers under the front mounting of the screen with longer bolts to let more air under the screen, almost eliminates the heat problem. I don't feel the heat to be a problem...

    Clunk on second gear

I notice that I have some level of apparent problem when I'm not in a hurry. Gear shift appears to go part way through and hangs up, letting the clutch out and you feel it snick into gear. Talked with my mechanic today and his explanation was that this is not uncommon. The transmission is...

Dangerous to fix a MC flat with a plug?

I have used the sticky string type for years and never a failure, in one case putting two in the same hole because it was so big, rode for three days and finally made it home and pitched the tire, all this two up and in the wet. Plugs work, for a new tire that has happened near home removed the...

Traxxion Dynamics AK-20 fork cartridge kit install!!

I think you did one of the righ options, I would never do the Wilbers thing again, too many mistakes, I still don't have the right spring on the rear, I have it just need to put it on this winter. Bums me that we had to play and I had my work clothes on. I noticed that the trunk on the FJR is...

    Considering used 05 FJR, questions

I have an FJR and what happens from here on out is up to you. Travelling with a passenger is a great thing, so is passenger comfort. Consider getting the top box and using that as a backrest without the back rest pad fitted. If you ride hard you will be looking for a better rear shock. I am...

    Avons on the way

I rode 5000 miles on Avon last September, had to baby them to get that, freeway cruisin. Backroads would return around 3000 miles so expectations seem a bit out of line. Neville

    What 'da hell....?!

To my knowledge the AMA has never made money through their pro-racing efforts. They do not publish financial reports that allow this to be clearly explained. The organization had a board of directors of whom 50% are reserved for manufacturers. The dues paying membership does not control the...
