    New Seat Options for 08

I like my Sargent as well. After break-in, the difference in comfort over stock is very noticeable. I rarely do more than 200 miles at a stretch, so the Sargent was a good compromise for cost vs utility. Before break in the Sargent will jar your teeth loose over speed bumps or rail crossings...

    Anyone else garage-less?

Most of the time my FJR is under a quality cover in the driveway, but usually I use a Cycle Shell in the winter for my FJR and for a few months I stored my former Triumph in it. When not being used it gets folded up against the shed under a tarp. Wind is not an issue due to a high fence so I...

Pros and cons of gov't employment?

I retired from both local and Federal government. Neither workplace was as liberal as the one you describe. Management, not the job itself, supplied most of the stress in both cases. Local government allowed comp time, but the Fed didn't. Overtime was rare and was always paid, which took a...

    2-up camping on the FJR...

MotoCampers.com forum has many hints about 2-up camping.

    Riding / Work Boots

Dunham 6" Helcor + Schoeller steel toe work boot. Slip Resistant sole. More comfy than military style boots due to the shorter height. Grey and black color more stylish for riding than typical work boot. FJR isn't the easiest shifter in the world, so I got the steel toe.

    08 windshield

I'm 5-11 and seat is at standard height. My Cal-Sci large is normally raised 90%. (100% can't see over the screen) The wind hits near the top of the helmet unless there is a strong cross wind, but it only makes a little noise. I can easily hear my motor and exhaust, and can I usually keep the...

Aux lighting - on forks or on mirrors?

I had amber Motolights installed on the brake calipers to reduce the chance of getting lost in the headlights on multilane roads by lane changers. There is little if any loss in brightness but the bulbs are a little more expensive. Can't say if I see any better- no time for comparison.

    V-stream windshield question

Update on previous post. Based on online reviews I went for a Large Cal-Sci screen for summer. I'm keeping my V-Stream for winter. I like that the Cal-Sci center vent puts a mild cooling breeze around my neck which was much appreciated the other day. I run it about 90% height, which doesn't...

    Need help replacing windshield

In addition to Bin O'Facts, things I learned from experience and other posts are: using a small #1 Phillips head screwdriver, when reattaching the windshield, place my finger on the back section of each phillips screw bushing to add support , and go easy on them, its easy to overtorque.

    Quick Newbie Question

Even in worst case if cramps developed, there are several adjustments to bars, seat, and aftermarket that you could use to adapt the bike to your preferences. My dealer, Battleys, offered a test ride too. Having just come from a cruiser, except for maybe the seat, I can say that it was...

    V-stream windshield question

I installed my National Cycle V-stream windshield yesterday and took it for a 90 minute test run. It does work much better than the stock screen to reduce buffetting, but there were a couple of issues I had concerns about. At the lowest setting, the entire windshield mount mechanism seemed to...

    New Area to the Forum

What about comments on pending laws being on topic? For instance, Maryland Senate just approved law banning handheld cellphone use while driving. I emailed my support to the Maryland House of Delegates. Would the fact be acceptable, and also the comment about support?

    FJR or ST

Hello from a fellow PO (retired). I had the same dilemma, and if it wasn't for forums like this one I think I would have regretted it later. Initially I actually preferred the 2008 BMWs but couldn't see spending all that money. I love my new FJR, and I know I've only just scratched the surface...

    Bought 08 finally, BIG REGRETS!!

Congrats! I'm breaking in a 2007 right now. Like you I sold a big cruiser and have no regrets. I did experience some mild lower back and wrist aches with the stock handlebar setup. A Heli triple clamp got rid of those problems (I'm 5-11, 34/35 inch sleeve).

    Two-wheeler for wife

https://www.vtwinmama.com/motorcycles_for_short_riders.htm[/url] Try this link. Everyone has been very helpful, but this link hit the bullseye. Someone put in a lot of work to compile this list. I will pass it on to my fellow motorcycle club members in their newsletter for their spouses to...

    Two-wheeler for wife

Hi, When my wife was in the dealer showroom picking up her new helmet she walked over to a Harley and said she wants one. I've done some searches here but came up zip. If anybody knows some threads with bike recommendations for ladies who want to steer their own ride, I'd appreciate it. From...
