twowheelnut, I saw it as well. The plastic is melting, the plastic is melting.... oh wait... that was the sky and it was falling. Those with a new '06, thanks for being test pilots. You are on a mission to ensure that Mamma Yama knows the faults and champions of the new FJR design. I hope that you continue to bark up the correct tree as well as report status on this board.

Sheesh ! <_<

1st rule of rumor-mongering is to never admit to being the source if you want it to be taken seriously !

This is better than a gossip column or ET tonight :D ...the ability to leg pull on this forum is truly incredible to see....gotta love it.... :bleh:

Geez. I get a little busy at work for a while and you guys go off on a rip without me.

Quick! somebody say something about oil.

Hey, scab....dot here.....haven't heard from you in a while....what kind of oil you using now a days to put your shoes on?

Good for you....hope you don't fall out of your shoes when the **** hits the fan....

I read online that Yamaha installed all the returned 'ticker' valvetrains on the new '06's. :D

Well, my 04 with 58000km on it has just started ticking. What happens if I just ignore it and ride for another 58000km? Or won't it let me do that? I don't mind the noise, but I sure hate hassle and downtime. Where's my Concours when I need it?

uralrob.

Don't take life too serious (until you develop a tick), its not permanent.

I have noticed no abnormal noise on my 06.

Cam chain tensioners can and will make noise as the cam chain rattles. It is a common ailment on many bikes. Once the chain stretches a bit and the tensioner adjusts the noise will usually go away. It also does not really hurt anything.

I understand this has been a serious problem on some previous model year bikes and I do understand those owners frustrations. I don't mean to take away from the seriousness of this problem, but I think the reports of ticking bikes has everyone a little spring loaded and they may be over-reacting to what is normal valve train and injector noise. Every bike I have ever owned gave off a mild ticking sound from one side or another, especially when the engine is cold.

My advice would be to take a deep breath and go for a long ride and then listen to the noise with the engine fully heat soaked.

You ain't kiddin. . .has anybody taken an up close listen to a BMW K1200R? Noiseeee. . .even as compared to my '04 FJR before the tick repair job was done.

Ok, so that is ONE report. Me thinks you exaggerate a bit. Care to offer who made this report?
+1 on this. This is "a report" from an undisclosed source. Hardly qualifies for the original comment "there are reports".

Extreme main bearing problem causing catastrophic failures.

A fellow rider who was on a trip to Big Bend was riding close to Marathon West Texas, heard a suspicious noise that slowly built in volume, shut down the engine and coasted to a stop.

Luckily he was close to the Gage Hotel where we were staying.

We started the bike and sure enough the noise was much louder.

The bike was parked and trailered back on the chase vehicle to Houston later.

He called the dealer from Marathon.

Sure enough the dealer confirmed the problem.

There are over 4000 engines out there with bad main bearings was the report.

A sub standard batch was produced and now motors are failing.

The motors are being replaced free of charge and sent back to the factory.

The cost of a replacement was over $4000.

This is costing the bearing manufacturer a ton of money.

Think yourself lucky that you own an FJR!

This problem affects the 1200cc BMW horizontal twin.

My theory...

Flog it! Run the piss out of it. If it ticks, get it fixed. If not...I had fun running the piss out of it.

All this ticker talk...geez. Sick of hearing it.

:dribble:

I'm new to the FJR so I'm not familiar with this ticking problem. I have 500km on my 06 and I have to say all I hear is a nice low thrum from the engine, reminiscent of my 86 Radian, and a smooth whine from the drivetrain. Quality control seems to be quite good; my only complaints so far is about my short stubby legs not allowing me to put both feet flat on the ground and the saddlebags not being big enough to hold my backpack (but I'm told there's a farkle called 'The Rack' that will take care of my short stubby legs :yahoo: ) Maybe I'm just lucky, don't know what to listen for, or just haven't adjusted fully to the awesome difference from my 04 FZ6 to notice.

My $0.02CAD worth.

----------------------------

My opinion just gets more valuable: $0.02CAD now worth $0.0174USD and climbing!
