January 13, 2003. I believe, according to the serial number, that mine was the 24th FJR imported to the US (someone would have to fact check me on that). Mine has only about 4K miles on and is in pristine shape. Never dropped.

Sold my 2003 six years ago
If my memory bank serves me right, I picked it up in June 2002, number 000046
Ownership of that 2003 (Red Sylvie) gave me many new friends and experiences I may never have had otherwise.

I was at the end of 2003 delivery. Most had their 2003 model early fall of 2002

Advertising said brakes of the R1! Wait this beast is a little heavier.

Galfer wave rotors, stainless brake hose, fork brace, forks and rear 4 way shock sent out for cleaning every couple of years. Spring for just my weight and no passenger. I keep it soft sprung for my sensitive behind!

What is a rear 4 way shock? You say....."Spring for just my weight and no passenger"....do you mean the fork?
I've done the fork brace, stainless hoses, 2004 springs in the fork.

4K??!! That's amazing, very cool, and I would love to see this bike in person to compare to mine, but I'm puzzled; why don't you ride it more? I mean, that's why we have these bikes, to ride, right? At 4k, you might not even know yet that your bike has the defective valve guides.

Mine is serial #9. The lowest I've ever heard of was #6 (it was a ticker, I met up with him to confirm the diagnosis). #7 and #8 were demonstrators initially loaned out to the magazines for test rides and later on Ride days promotions for select members of the public. One of those was later sold into private hands, I don't know what happened to the other, but was told it "couldn't be sold to the public" making me suspect it too became a ticker and was quietly stripped down by Yamaha engineers for diagnosis.

They didn't come across individually, but in batches, container loads at a time. The demand for these so-called "2003" models so surprised Yamaha that they didn't have the production capacity and had to suspend sending "2002" bikes destined for other markets to fulfill the orders that North American dealers had already taken deposits on.

I've done the fork brace, stainless hoses, 2004 springs in the fork.

Rear shock 4way compression and rebound damping high and low speed

Height adjustment also and have rear raised 3/4 inch for more ground clearance and faster steering

Springs front and back changed a few times.

I also have a "Liquid Silver" 03. Love it. Still bone stock with 40k trouble free miles. It has never let me down. Heating system works perfectly all winter long....never needed plug in accessories despite being in NJ.
