I'll ask Dave Hodges of GPSuspension to address the pre-load/ride height issue for youse guys; I don't appear to be able to communicate it effectively enough...

I think you did a good job Warchild, I got it. :yahoo:

OK, here is the deal with regard to just purchasing the Compression/Rebound kits: basically, this practice is discouraged.
In the case of what Gary did last year, that's an example of where GPSuspension is happy to oblige... but they have a working relationship with Gary's suspension tuning shop (Evolution Suspension).

But for the "man off the street", this install is not necessarily a trivial exercise. It may not be rocket science, but there are special tools involved to hold the cartridge, the cartridge rod, etc. It is easy to dork up a component by using vise-grips, etc, and then you will be out serious $$$ for replacement items.

If you have a legitimate, certified Suspension Shop that you will have install your hardware, sure, they'll sell you the Kits.

But what they want to avoid is having a shade-tree mechanic try to install these without the proper tools, realize they are in over their heads, and then be subjected to multi-hour telephone marathons to talk the customer through the install. They are not a huge shop, and both Dave and Ben are busy all day doing installs or fabricating parts.

Which allows us to have these exquisite components to begin with. :eek:k:
I know they discouraged buying everything, but can I buy just the seals and springs? I just can't afford the full rebuild right now..... :(

From the opening page of the Group Buy website:

For do-it-yourself folks, we will have killer pricing on the best Eibach fork springs available!
Seals, that I don't know. If your fork seals aren't leaking, I wouldn't mess with them, personally.

30 NOV Update:

Fork Upgrades: 20

Penske: 10

Ohlins: 3

Wilbers rebuilds: 8

Eibach forks springs: 7

30 NOV Update:

Are there any motorcycle suspension places on the east coast that anyone knows of? Theres no chance I can install these things on my own and driving to Oregon isnt happening. Just trying to figure out how i would get it installed.

Traxxion Dynamics and CMD Computrack. Both are just N. of Atlanta and are Excellent.

My Gixxer has front end work from CMD.

Actually I think both are within a few miles of each other.

Traxxion Dynamics
Harrmm.....

Yes, Traxxion Dynamics is good. Very, *very* good.

They are also a direct competitor of GP Suspension, for what it's worth.

Might be a bit like asking Muzzy to install a Yoshimura exhaust system....

Warchild,

if I get the forks re-built, do the new soaky souky socky's come with a remote pre-load or will I have to use a C-spanner?

And actually, I'd need two C-spanners right? A left AND a right handed wrench, one for each fork.

Right?

GZ

Somebody please take his beer away.......

The FJR forks have preload adjusters at the top of the forks right from the factory, and will likely have them when they return from GPSuspension.

Only one 17mm wrench needed (open-end, not 'C'-spanner).

G, I'm pretty sure that when you get the forks back, they'll be pretty much dialed in. Now, if you have any beer left over, I'll come down and help you figger out that c-spanner for the forks. Promise. ;)

I just got a PM, and now I'm REALLY confused.

The forks are on the front of the bike?

Beerless after some serious food poisoning yesterday,

Any ballpark prices on round trip shipping on fork tubes and shocks to the east coast?
Sounds like you should go figure this out at UPS.com and report back. It will probably vary between $30 and $200 depending on the specific destination, mode, company, and speed of service you choose.
FWIW, from South Jersey, one way 1 box, 36"x12"x12" 60lbs (fork tubes) and 1 box 24"x6"x6" 20lbs (rear shock) shipped ground UPS comes to $97.19.That totals with r/t shipping about $930 for me. WOW!

I need to find some grant money.

...well....I was just totally wrong on the estimated weights I guess....more than 10% of the bike are forks and shock....who knew. I'm glad you found it out and shared it with the forum. Now others can figure out their exact ship price.

Iggy,

It's a conservative WAG with packaging included.

I'm not sure if the 10% is sarcasm....I've been clueless before.

A pair of FJR forks usually weighs around 18-22# in a 36x10x10 box with proper packing inside, also the rear shocks weighs in around 8-10# and we usually ship together in the same box. There's plenty of room and also include insurance for around $2,000.00 for the pair which is only $.45 per $100.00 using UPS. I hope this helps.

Then I was right in the right ballpark going for a 35# figure. I think I remember 32# now actually for me shock and two forks.

Thank You very much Mr GP!

That puts r/t shipping with a declared value of $2500 at $132 for me.

I just had no idea of the weight of the suspension components, but the 10% quip kinda made me think I was way off.

Thanks for this opportunity WC!

Mark.

I didn't see the bracket for the remote reservoir for the Penske shock on the list. I assume we can order it when we place final order-right? Thanks for the GB Dale! Ian, Iowa
