3375 miles last 12 days...

I just got back from one of my trips of a lifetime - Run For The Wall - 12 days - 3375miles - my '04 now has 92275 on it

kicker of the trip was standing in line at Thunder Alley near the Vietnam Wall at the burger tent. A vet with vest walks up behind me for his lunch - has one artificial arm. I order my hot dog, hamburger, and diet pepsi and tell the lady I'm getting whatever this vet behind me wants. I wish him welcome home and he surprisingly brightens up and thanks me profusely. I tell him I'm Navy, fought the Cold War, and am a PGR Ride Captain from Nawlins'. He points to a patch on his vest. It's indicates "Society of the Medal of Honor". Holy ****, he's a Vietnam Conflict Medal of Honor Winner. I offer him my card and a PGR pin. He takes my card and says he isn't into pins, but he has something for me. He pulls out his "Mission Coin" with the pic of the Army Medal of Honor and a Purple Heart on one side with the logo of the Society of Medal of Honor Recipients, and his name and date of incident - during Tet 8 Jan 1968 and Gary G. Wetzel

thanx...PGR can be a funny thing

this lowly Navy Lt O3 is chummy with Generals and Admirals, Colonels and Captains

I've shaken hands now with 6 Medal of Honor Recipients and attended funerals standing the flag line for two of them

I ask them about it subtley, and the answers include from all of them

1) we wear the medal not for ourselves, but for all of the folks who never came back

2) we are NOT Medal of Honor Winners, We Are Medal of Honor Recipients

3) when the **** hits the fan, we do not fight for God, Country, or Mom's Apple Pie; we fight for our buddy/comrade at our side and it's amazing what one can do with no regard for self when he get's pissed off enough

175 miles today - really great day

AIW (Angelic Italian Wifey) as pillion for first time in a year because of assorted health problems - did just fine

Jeff Q and his lovely wifey Sonja came by to the Big Easy from Biloxi to join us

She rides a Katana 750, but left it at my home and rode pillion with Jeff on his '08 since my wife did the same with me

Metairie, Destrehan, over the Destrehan Bridge across the mighty Miss, Luling to Raceland to twisties through sugar cane fields through Kraemer to Vacherie

then River Road north to Oak Alley Plantation - took the tour and walked around

up River Road some more, cross the mighty Miss on the Sunshine bridge, then twisty hwy 22 along the bayou to Springfield.

lunch at Charlie's Seafood with great jumbo butterfly fried shrimp, onion rings to die for, broiled fish, and grilled tuna.

then to Ponchatoula, hwy 51 along Lake Maurepas to Laplace and back to Metairie.

All had a good time and look forward to doing it again.

let's ride safe and be careful out there,

Mike in Nawlins'
