We've all seen pics of our bikes with the helmet resting on the seat, but it looks weird to see an empty helmet like that. What I'd like to see is a little bit of Photoshop action to put a head, or at least a face, into the sad and lonely and oh so empty blackness of the empty helmet. I think it would spruce up the photo nicely.

As for cruise control, I'm thrilled that Yammie has decided to grace us with it, since my first or second mod on my two FJR's has been to install an Audiovox CC. Other than the ridiculous current upper limit, I love it.

Your avatar pic would work nicely...

Letter sent today....also, filled out after-purchase survey (grading the dealership) on-line....I laid it on thick about the cruise issue in both cases. A GoldWings got a cap also...if you set the cruise at 120...it just levels out at 100 mph. Hell, I'd be happy with a 92 mph cap. I indicated in the correspondence that I couldn't recommend the bike to my friends without pointing out this "real" issue to them. Most friends I've told this to (seriously) laughed thinking I was joking, initially, until they didn't see me laugh.

I hate cruising down the slab on the new, sporty FJR getting passed by every mini-van on the road...and that's on 70 mph roads. If you can't use it when and where you need it, what's the point? Back-road, flower sniffin'?

Otherwise, I'm having trouble finding fault with the balance of the bike.

My Nexium kicked in there a little, but yeah, kinda like that. Maybe put the head inside an empty helmet, though, especially if you're going to use yourself as the model. By the way, it's weird to see you without a whiskey bottle somewhere in the shot. It must be just out of frame, I suppose. Nice effort, though.

So I just read through this thread... guess I had nothing better to do. Jeez, I've got way too much time on my hands. Seems like several of you guys are mounting a letter writing campaign here. Even though I have even less interest in a higher cruise limit than I do in buying a new FJR, I'll try to do my part here. Maybe one more letter will help your cause. I got the address for Dennis from the first page of this thread and have written a brief letter to him requesting a change in this cruise control limit. I'll get it in the mail tomorrow.

Thanks Gary. For those of us who see this is a problem, we appreciate your effort to do the right thing even though it doesn't affect you directly.

Has anyone heard back from Yamaha regarding letters sent out on cruise control issue? Mailed this out three weeks ago and sent another last week: NOTHING!

Letter sent!
Gunny, sent! Brother Harald: Since I'm a lazy and shifless Irishman I basically copied your letter. THANKS!

Dear Mr. McNeal,

I purchased my first Yamaha products back in 1975, two RD400's: The Green one was my commuting bike and I set the Red one up as a track bike. My 2003 FJR13000 has been a great bike for the 65,000 miles I’ve put on it since then, but I just added to my motorcycling stable; I also own BMW's. Last Friday I purchased #61 from Town and Country Motorsports in my hometown of Chandler, AZ. The newly redesigned 2013 FJR1300 is the perfect replacement except for one easily remedied design fault.

The cruise control on my new moto is limited to speeds 80mph or below for models imported into the USA, while European models don’t have this limit. It’s common knowledge AZ Department of Public Safety police officers generally do not enforce speeding that doesn’t exceed 10mph over the posted limits: All Arizona freeways have 75mph speed limits. My new 2013 FJR cannot even be set for legal speeds in the USA and this is unacceptable for us long distance riders traveling through the open desert.

I urge you to get this cruise control speed limit removed completely like the European models. This minor reprogram of the CPU will ensure that many riders will again consider the new FJR1300 as they shop for a new bike. The 80 mph Cruise Control limit is now hurting FJR Sales! It is a solid true fact!

Sincerely yours,

Don Stanley

Chandler, AZ

See post #26.....

And when you copy parts of other peoples letters you make the same mistakes they do.....The Euro models DO NOT have the CC limited removed....they are limited to 112mph or 180kph..

In my defense I should point out that due to the uncertainty of what the actual European limit was, I specifically worded my letter to state that the European models don't have THAT limit (referring back to the 80mph US limit). This leaves it open for some higher limit or no limit at all.

With that said, I could live with a 112mph limit and probably most other potential FJR buyers could also. Although I'm sure there will still be a few that will complain.

FWIW, I know I'm one of the gripers, but even 100 would be acceptable for what I use the bike for. Out here in the west, 80mph on the open freeway don't cut it.

BUT...Why put a limit at all. We should be big boys and girls. I know there's a chance that some ****** will crash his bike and sue Yamaha because it can go too fast, but that's already a factor. Hell, they could add, "Never use the cruise control to ride faster than a safe speed for your current conditions" to the tank warning sticker.

Then the idiots are warned and the rest of us don't have to ride to the lowest common denominator. Easy peasy!!

+1, Gunny; I agree 100% with 'Zilla, plus I fixed AJ's post!

Time to move out of New Jersey .... Let me google the state that allows legal speed limit more than 80mph . :)

Is that going to coincide with the 2014 unlimited cruise control?

Just curious

Yes all it takes is another sticker I need to take off. Seems pretty simple to use a disclaimer this way. Hair dryers work well on them, or bake them in the sun.

I just had a call from a guy called Ty at Yamaha Cypress....wanted to know how i liked the bike and to let me know that all our letters and comments were not falling on deaf ears....

He is not sure if they will do anything about is as the cruiser bikes have had an 80mph CC limit since the 90's...I did tell them that cruiser riders ride like old ladies and we didn't but dont think that helped..

I got the same call tonight although he told me the Mother-ship and the US Lawyers agreed on 80 MPH for the US market and they would not be changing it. He said they had received numerous letters (mostly from a bunch of whinny *******s on the FJR Forum). He stressed that they appreciate the feed back and wanted me to know that they do read customer correspondence and take our input seriously.

They take our input seriously and yet will not be doing anything with it??? What a load of double-talk...
