I got the same call tonight although he told me the Mother-ship and the US Lawyers agreed on 80 MPH for the US market and they would not be changing it. He said they had received numerous letters (mostly from a bunch of whinny *******s on the FJR Forum). He stressed that they appreciate the feed back and wanted me to know that they do read customer correspondence and take our input seriously.
They take our input seriously and yet will not be doing anything with it??? What a load of double-talk...
I work for a Japanese owned company. It's very difficult to convince them they are wrong about something. They will do one of two things, stick with the decision they made or quietly change it in 2014 - 2015. Unless it is safety related they won't change what has already shipped. To do so would admit they made a mistake which would bring dishonor to the company.

I told you guys that after the first block of 2013s that s/n 349 would have c/c that worked over 81 mph......why won't you listen?

He is not sure if they will do anything about is as the cruiser bikes have had an 80mph CC limit since the 90's...I did tell them that cruiser riders ride like old ladies and we didn't but dont think that helped..
You should have told him about all the bikes from the competition that DO have reasonable cruise control upper limits.

I did, I mentioned the Wing and the BMW...I also mentioned what a fat pig the new Triumph is.....

Probably most companies would react the same way. Admitting wrong-doing leaves a door open to get sued.

2008 BMWs have some undesired behavior in their ABS units- after several high speed braking runs (cops practicing), the pump will overheat and seize up. OK, that's not normal every day use, but still. BMW was informed; they tested and confirmed the behavior, but said there's nothing wrong with the design... which was changed for 2010 models to relieve the issue.

OTOH, There's no reason not to "improve" things. Triumph releases new EFI maps on a regular basis. Shame other companies both Japanese and European can't see things the same way.

So .....

I'm curious if the Gen III riders believe that this cruise control issue is a show stopper for the bike? Would you buy again? Should anyone else buy one?

On the BMW K1600 you could set the cruise control higher, but on the other hand, the cruise control on the K1600 was notoriously unreliable due to left multi-switch failures.

At least I haven't heard any of you complaining that the cruise had failed yet. When mine on the K1600 failed, the word was that parts were backordered all the way back to the Vaterland. They couldn't even correctly diagnose it until Hans und Fritz made some new special cables to interface with the Mothership's computer.

Show stopper? Naw. But given a choice between a CC (at all) and paying a few hundred less... I'd rather pay less.

Seriously, anyone have more than 3k miles on a Gen III yet? There's not much data to base a judgement of reliability on. Check again next October.

I got 1400 miles on mine and have used the CC a few times....i rode the wing yesterday and was VERY surprised at how hard the throttle felt after riding the 13.....

definitely NOT a show stopper...

No, not at all. I will most likely seldom use it, and then only at 70-75. I have cc in my truck that seldom gets used.

It's nice to have but not a necessity.

As Dean said; not a deal-killer but I would just a soon they’d given me the option of dropping the price a hundred or two and left it off. As I have to use a throttle lock at AZ highway speeds anyway, I’d prefer not to have the left switch cluster cluttered up with useless **** buttons.

And given the competition, I’m sure the CC limit is costing Yamaha some sales. A reality Yamaha needs to be made aware of.

+1, Gunny; I fully agree with this statement of AKjitsu, it also upsets me Yamaha Corporation cannot respond to two written letters.

as a new owner, with hardly any miles yet, i can say that without a doubt, i am DIGGING the cruise control.

Remember what my granpappy told me..chicks dig scars, tatoos, and cruise control.

Here in Texas the speed limit on Texas Toll Highway 130 the speed limit between Austin and San Antonio is 85 mph. The speed limit between Junction Texas and El Paso County is 80 mph for approximately 432 miles.

The Texas legislature recently raised the maximum legal speed on appropriate Texas highways to 85 mph and we expect more highways to have 80-85 mph speed limits in the foreseeable future.

Yuppers, puppers....it's going to suck to be a 2013 fjr owner in tejas. Unless you get s/n 349 or later........jsns.

Admin Note for folks that may be watching. Naming individuals that work for Yamaha and attacking them on this forum isn't cool and against rule #4. The name was redacted.

I'd also like to remind folks that we've had a long and successful informal relationship with Yamaha (and probably more correctly Yamaha of North America) by remaining respectful and resisting calling them names. At the same time we've also been very assertive at trying to correct problems and think they've listened and responded, in part, to this forum. Here's a recent example. We haven't made any formal rules on this and continue to hope common sense will prevail. Keep the firm and respectful letters flowing.

Thanks.
