In your letter to Yamaha referencing the European cruise control, you could add that the Canadian Gen III also has the higher speed setting limit. Canadians can set theirs at a higher maximum speed than US bikes? That's gotta change. :)

One of my pet hedgehogs died this past week. Wifey called up and let me know. Had to leave work an hour early so we could make pinehill pet cemetary on time. On the way back to the dfw metromess we hit some wicked traffic in decatur. Once it loosened up I picked up speed to bout 87mph and lit up the cruise control. Made me think of this place so I dropped it down to 82mph. Can any of you guys cruise at 82mph?

Has anyone got a reply back from Yammie?
AKjitsu got a call from a guy at Yamaha and reported what was said earlier in this thread. The same guy also called me in response to my letter and we basically had the same conversation, so I didn't bother posting the same thing. But I suppose it should be known that Yamaha is very responsive to letters written by us potential future FJR owners.

If you write a letter, you'll probably get a call. The more letters written, the more Yamaha will realize this is something to address to keep selling bikes. And I'm sure they realize that us hard core riders/FJR owners are more than just A lone customer because we can influence lots of riders due to our perceived expertise and involvement in the riding community.

Letter written and will go out tomorrow.

Since I won't be riding my 2013 till April where is the sweet spot in 5th gear? in other words, what speed is it happy at when in fifth gear? My Electra Glide was very content at 85 in sixth gear. Slower than that it labored. I didn't have CC so an upper limit obviously didn't matter, the FJR is my first two wheeler with CC.

...my '09 's very happy at 5000 RPM in 5th gear! Too bad there aren't many places that allow for extended use.

I second Escapefjrtist,

My '07 does feel well in the firth in between 4 - 5 k rpm, yet with Black 'n White lurking all over the place 5k revs will give you a decent 75+ and that is for them a no no :(

4k = 75

5k = 94 and a possible stay in an unpleasant institution.

After 4k is when she really wakes up so twist and go beyond that.

My vista cruise ($25.00) locks me in where ever I like. I think I'll be keeping the 09 a while longer, at least till I pay it off.

TR;

The thing with the Feejer, as with most inline fours, is that the higher you spin it the sweeter it gets. The Feejer is perfectly capable of cruising comfortably well into three digits once you get your wind management (windscreen, posture, etc.) under control. Exercise caution.

Good luck.

This March, a little south of Tuscon I was in an area where a cruise that would set over 82 mph would have been nice.

Ya know what they say about clean bikes, right?
Ya, ride a rental and let some other poor SOB wash it for you when you get back. I made a pretty good mess of this bike on dirt roads but it pales in comparison to what I did to a K1300 in the mud this October. The poor old K was so packed with mud the brake calipers froze.
