It is perfect. Just enough new stuff to make it competitive, but not enough to tease me into wanting to replace my Gen 1. ;)

Ohhhh that's not right... no no no, not at all bro.

Your a Gen2 guy, the only ones who can say Gen3's suck are Gen1 guys... especially the ones who can't adapt to changes well ;)

Gen I :yahoo:

Gen II :yahoo: :yahoo:

Gen III :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
Oh come on, we Gen II can gang up on the Gen III with the Gen I guys. On the up side, this'll give two generations for the Gen I guys to bitch about. I bet they couldn't be happier. :p
Us Gen 2 guys cannot lower our standards to those Gen 1-ers, they want to live in the past so be it. I think of us Gen 2-ers as way more adaptive to new(er) technology.

So take an oath... "we cannot lower our standards to Gen-1 mentality!". And "we totally approve of moving forward!".

I am going to start defarkling my 03' this winter for sale in the spring. I finally have a Sport Touring replacement bike after 10+ years of wonderful 03' ownership.

Thank you Yamaha!! :yahoo:

Easy enough to swap out the bulbs with some bright whites.
Colored bulbs suck! They filter out lumens trying to project the white light. Real Xenon is the only way, no fake titties need apply!
Yeah, I meant xenons... but even they are blue tipped. Dunno about lumen ratings... all I know is when I install the xenons I get MUCH more distance and clarity from the beams.... and they don't look piss yellow.

Next big question...

Base pricing ? Option$ ?

Damn, I might have to buy 2 freeqn bikes now!

The worlds gone mad i tell ya! :yahoo:

Not to piss (yellow) on your parade, but you are talking about fake titties if you have a colored bulb of any sorts.

True Xenon (real HID) get it's color entirely from the gas and salts inside the capsule and require a stepup transformer (ballast) to up the voltage from 12v to upwards of 6,000 volts. I know a lot of bulbs (especially on FleaBay) call their colored bulbs HID but they aren't... just fake titties as mentioned prior.

Even "Xenon" bulbs suck. They are just incandescent bulbs where the envelope has been filled with Xenon gas instead of halogen.

What you want (and probably what you meant) is Xenon HID lamps. With HID there is no filament. It is a gas arc that is making all the light.

Oh, and I don't see what's so bad about fake titties either. (this should spur a series of interesting pictures)

If that is your plan, you really blew it. Now your '03 is 10 model years and 4 generations old (the '04-'05's were really a generation removed from the earlier ones). It'll be worth about $3.75 on the open market now, but only if you throw in a cup a coffee in the deal. :p But seriously, I wouldn't part with my '05 for one of these new ones unless I had to (something happened to my '05) and even then I'd pro'lly buy another ABS BBB just so the farkles would all transfer. ;)

Oh Thank God Freddie Bear, I was so shook up thinking Geezer had defected away from the Magnificent Gen One's: I accidentally spilled a fourth of my bottle of Bushmill's into my morning coffee!

Oops, I guess I didn't insert my response in the correct location... just a thanks to Fred W for the image of the GPS mount.

Everybody says, "Next big question: price."

I say, "Next big question: do we get it here?"

I note that it's not on the US Yamaha site.

I assume we'll see it, because somebody said that someone heard about supposedly leaked EPA data, and why do EPA if you ain't sellin' it, but then, why ain't it on the US site?

(Impatient, much?)

Fly-by-wire is The Big Thing here. It's not an "Oh, by the way" feature. It is THE improvement on the bike. But will it respond to WOT starts when the bike is flooded? :p

There's a good description and photo(exploded view) of gps mounting kit accessory in the accessories link on the Yamaha website.

I can't seem to post the direct link. You'll have to scroll to it if you want to see it.

It's no secret that I've been test riding possible replacements for my bike. The new bike has put the FJR back in the hunt (other than another Gen 1). I may be going down the defarkling path with you over the winter as well. If that's the case, look for a sale on some nice Gen 1 goodies in the spring. I'm gonna wait to see what the new owners/press have to say about the bike first though.

I'm happy to see Yammie finally step up to the plate with some really nice evolutionary changes as opposed to coming out with an entirely new scoot. As much as I liked the new S10 to ride, the bike just doesn't do it for me in the looks department. I'm shallow that way :D
