There goes Key Largo. I'm not crazy right? Key West is almost 3300 miles from checkpoint 2.

Wow.

IGGY Update:

But his FJR is going to roll over 150,000 miles in the next tank of fuel and just runs like a Timex. He's never really bought into the vehicles having souls sort of thing, but he find himself patting it/her/him on the side of the tank occasionally, "Good FJR....good FJR." The Pony Express theme just struck a chord with him and his bike.
C'mon Matt, give her the reigns and let her buck!!!!

For anyone who saw "Hidalgo"!

At least from that far north it will all be down hill!

Is there something wrong with that? The timing is perfect. It makes for their arrival in Pittsburgh occur during morning rush hour. You think the RM wants to make this easy for the

Nope, nothing wrong with it - just sorta wondering if there was a reason behind it.

Besides the obvious one of not making it easy.

Now that I think about it - I guess since they start at 10am on the first day then the 10am end of acceptable arrival time makes it 11 days.

Beginning to look like there are some big points in Key West!

So Tom Austin has said, and Bob Higdon confirmed that everytime Key West was on the IBR schedule, it was a "sucker" Bonus. Yet this time it is on the schedule twice!!

And twice people have been tempted ... it must be the bragging rights "I rode to Key West on the Iron Butt Rally"

Of course, we will not know if it is actually a sucker bonus until the chips are counted, but on the 1st Leg it did no one any favours.

Whatever ... This guy is undertaking a magnificent, massive ride. The kind of ride that the IBR is famous for, and win or bust, hats off to him and I hope he stays safe.

Just about - and 1300 miles from PIttsburg.

The question for us looking in from the outside at this point is what value has been assigned to going to Key West? Is there a twist for going twice? We assume that rider bypassed most of the other bonus locations on the way across. Hopefully it's not a mistake on the rider's part of interpreting the bonus listing.

- Howard Entman: Also in Canada, somewhere east of Iggy

- Wendy: Cleaning up bonii down in the Houston region

- eeksnake: Still chasing bonii in the southwest

- TriggerT: West Texas, appears to be in that group streaming to the Houston area.

- Rusty: is also in Texas. I have no idea WTF he is doing.

- Paul Peloquin: Is pretty far north, but not in Canada

- stryg8r: is currently side-by-side with TriggerT

- Colin24: Surprise, Colin is still in Canada... but moving east.

Anything on Tony (101stpathfinder)? That's not him covering his home turf in FLA is it?
I wouldn't bet against it being Tony.

When it comes to monster rides..................Tony's your man.

It's not Tony.

It looked like it would take nearly the impossible to catch and pass Iggy/ or Eric. I doubt this person knows that Eric is out, if he's out. Certainly didn't know that when they departed and set course for Key West.

So that's what this person is after, it appears, 'The impossible' and s/he can do it, s/he is a machine.

EPIC ride.

:D

Seems to me that the folks in Canada will have a harder time making it to the barn than the fellow in the keys.
Yes, I believe you are correct. It's about 1330 miles from KW, the Canadian group is about 2100 miles out. A number of them are going to be hard pressed to make it to the barn on time.

The FL rider seems to have stopped immediately adjacent to the Marathon airport. Maybe not required to go all the way to KW?

KW - Pitt = 1333mi

CAlgary - Pitt = 2055

Regardless of what happened before - the Canada guys have a much longer ride to get home now, so there must have been a **** ton of points to scarf up there.

Now if he goes on up and hits Maine also on his way back to Pitt...Oh wait - that was the last one...

I can not say who the current Florida rider is, but it is not Tony.

Tony is currently in that group of folks near Houston.. he is moving along just fine.
*How to game the system*

Okay, then just tell us everyone that the rider is not. :p

Maybe an IBMotel pitstop? Rolling along right now through Big Coppitt.

Eric Jewell had a freak solo-accident in Golden Gate park. He low-sided, spun, then flipped his bike and himself at moderate speed into a high-side.

Neither he or the investigating officer could find what his rear wheel would have lost traction on. Bizarre.

He is banged up just a bit, should make a full recovery very soon. Bike is in bad shape, not sure if it was ridable.

Mark Crane and Dave Biasotti offered Eric there bikes to finish on, but Eric is unable to put weight on one of his feet, so he has had to withdraw.

Major Bummer, but as is often said of the IBR: She is a cruel mistress.

Good thing is, Eric is home and safe with family.
