My boring black go to work everday bike

It did set me back in my seat this morning leaving the light. WOT

Eh, for me the color is just a color. I bought the bike to ride not to look at. Had there not been a blue FJR1300, I probably would have gone for a red one.

It is actually a philosophical thing about the bike as much as anything truly aesthetic.
In MY opinion, FJRs look best in the brightest, "Bass Bote" colors. I have owned the Galaxy (Bass Bote) Blue '05, and now the Ticket Me (Bass Bote) Red '14 for good reason. These bright colors are what I associate with "fun", and my FJR is all about fun to me. It is not merely a transportation appliance that I ride each day to the drudgery of work. If it were then maybe some bland, nondescript shade of gray / silver / black would be more fitting, and help hide the dirt better.

But since I only ride my bike for recreation, the brightest colors are what I seek out.

There is also a completely valid reason they call it "ticket me red". Red is the fastest color.

Fred is really on to something here. Some of us ride our FJR's purely for pleasure and take pride in the bike's appearance. Why do you think exotic cars are red more than any other color?

Meh... some people like bright colors, others want the colors to be "reserved". I get that.

My bike colors in recent years definitely have a bias towards the bright:

1994 BMW R1100RS in "Marakesh Red"

1998 Honda VFR800Fi in "Ticket me Red"*

...and of course the best for last, the 2014 FJR1300ES is Candy Apple (Bass Bote) Red

All except the ADV type bikes (which are the epitome of utilitarian to begin with) have all been bright and fun colors. I have a gun metal gray Saab, a Utility Silver Ford C-Max company car, and a sedate Dark Green Ford F150 pick-em-up truck. I associate those drab and dark colors to cars, mere transportation appliances, not fun time motorcycles. But that probably says moire about me than anything else. ;)
