I know that many of you have been too this area before or live there, I'm looking for a couple of suggestion for destinations that maybe aren't as well known as the Chief Joseph, etc.The kind that once you think back about your trips its (that was a nice ride but not too spectacular) My guess is I'll have already seen some spectacular. I am really getting pumped about this event.

Yamafitter, JeffF and I are trailering out to Spearfish for arrival June 17th pm, will take off for the big blue yonder (or is that Big Sky) on the 18th and see you at Red Lodge on the 23rd. Then it's off to the Big Sky again on the 26th and we're shooting to be back in Spearfish July 3rd to ride the Black Hills. Then we'll try to get home by July 7 or 8. We've got a wee bucket list of things we missed in previous outings, but we'll never get it all. Still trying to figure out how to take in Mt. St. Helen's as road info unfolds......

Construction of the Beartooth Highway....work crew break ~1932

Some folks said they hadn't seen this thread so just sharing it here just in case... we are doing a fundraiser for Cole/Big Sky's widow, Marilyn, and will present a check to her on Saturday night at the BBQ. Information on how to donate is here. Thanks, y'all!

And for you folks thing about Going to the Sun Road, I don't think it's going to be open in time.
Many a folk on this board ain't scared of gravel, what's a little white stuff to get all concerned about. Wheatie, Griff, Hud, OFace!!! Kidding

But on a serious note, how much cold gear is gonna be needed up there? I just did some temp checks and some inconclusive data didn't help. BearTooth Pass has a low temp of 36 tonight and some snow is predicted. I know it will warm up for the day, but planning for 90s across the plains and then 40s in the mountains for beginning mornings is what I am trying to figure out. Just trying to be prepared like a Boy Scout.

Do I need to bring liners, heated gear, and heavier gloves? I was out in the area 2 years ago, but stayed south and was in the lower elevations. Appreciate the info about the upcoming trip.

Cav47. In the mountains the weather is unpredictable. I would be prepared for riding in 30 degree weather. If you got heated gear bring it. If you don't bring lots of layers. A rain jacket and pants not only keeps me dry but helps keep the chill out. Recently I was in Jasper AB riding in 36 degree temps one morning. Layers saved the day, along with my heated grips; I was quite comfortable.
