I do love Beartooth Pass.
That is some of the whitest sand that I have ever seen ! … That is sand right?

My better half talked me out of camping in my bivvy sack at red lodge so, I reserved a cabin at Koa in red lodge, see you all there and don't forget to pre-order your t-shirts. Should have my deer slayer out of the shop this next week.

Are their any fuel stops between Belle Fourche and Hardin on Hy 212? Mapquest says about 200 miles between and is kind of stretching it. I'd like to hit Little Bighorn Nat'l Monument either to or from Rapid City.

Also, is Montana 308 paved east of Red Lodge to 72 and then 310?

Is it too late to signup for this event. Since I had to bail on my Arkansas trip last week I know have available PTO.
Well I am going to speak for bigjohnsd and say hell no it's not too late. If you want in, I will add you to the attendance list. Check the first post in this thread for lodging options or check the first post in 2016 Red Lodge attendance list for room mate options. I think 101stpathfinder has an empty bed in his condo that may still be available or post up and someone else may have an available bed or bedroom.

That is good to hear. I just IM'ed 101stpathfinder regarding the availability of his empty bed. Please add me to the attendance list.

Some factors are coming together to allow me to begin to think this is doable. Class schedule is not conflicting, wife is not on Defcon 5 (or 1, I can't remember which is worse), and why the heck not??

I could do a SS 1K out there. It's 1380 from here, but I could stop somewhere around Spearfish which is 1051 miles away. Wha. Leaving from Illinois, the first part of the ride stinks anyway. Might as well just pound out some miles that suck.

Others are traveling that way from the midwest from what I gathered when I re-read the whole thread last night.

Finding a place to lay down at night might be the biggest hurdle.

I have you added to the attendance list in the looking for a room mate section Josh. I hope you can make Red Lodge happen. Get posted up looking for a room mate or an empty bed. I have to believe there will be an empty second twin bed, futon or sofa sleeper available in one of the condos at the Chateau. If no available beds open up at the Chateau, I think there is still rooms available at the Beartooth Hideaway Inn next door. It looks to be within a couple hundred yards of the Red Lodge Rendezvous central head quarters. If you need a personal reference, give them my name and I will tell them what kind of creep you were when we roomed together in LaCrosse last September.

Gonna check with the wife one more time. Just to make sure she didn't misunderstand me about going to Montana. She may have thought I said Montana Mikes, which is a local restaurant.

Better safe than sorry on this one.

Will be looking for a bed/roomie/flat spot to sleep as soon as I get full clearance.

Gas is available in Broadus MT, Ashland MT, Lame Deer MT and at the Junction of I-90 and 212 in Montana near the Custer Battlefield.

I'd Pick Broadus MT

308 is paved as is 72 and 310. 308 is a fun road but watch for forest rats around dusk. JSNS

I'd avoid getting fuel in Lame Deer or at the Exxon at Crow Agency at I-90. Have had unpleasant interactions with exceptionally intoxicated and belligerent people at both locations.

We normally stop at the station on the east side of Broadus with nary an issue. They have ice cream.

The Custer Battlefield can be an hour long stop or a 4-6 hour tour. Read a good book about the engagement before you visit. "Cavalier in Buckskin" by Robert M. Utley, former Chief Historian of the National Park Service is a good choice.

Everything is falling into place, PTO scheduled, sharing lodging with 101st pathfinder and best of all got the stamp of approval from my lovely wife . Can't wait...

17 days on the Pacific Princess, Ft Lauderdale to LA, via Curacao, Cartagena, Puerto Quepo CR, Puerto Vallarta and LaPaz. Eat your hearts out!

Ordered the book. Will give it to the local library after I finish with it. Thanks for the suggestion.
