It funny how most people think the AE is an automatic and how many think it's some how inferior though they've never tried it. I was sceptical but now I'm just spoiled.

With the Gen 3, you do get the option for it to automatically change down to first gear as you come to rest.
Maybe it's bad motorcycling practice, but I use it on mine when coming to a stop where I absolutely know I won't want to accelerate again on the approach. It simply changes down every time the engine RPM reaches tick-over. (Wrote it up here)

Whether it is or isn't an "automatic transmission" is a matter of semantics.

"Inferiority" is purely a judgement in one person's mind. If the thing that makes it inferior to one person, enables another to ride the bike that they may not otherwise, then which is it; inferior or superior? It is neither. It is only what it is to you.

I was reading about a truly automatic transmission on a bike recently, which has had a horrible time of getting people to accept it, though it may be a "superior" system for many potential riders that would/do have a hard time with a standard clutch and shifter: The CVT transmission on the Aprilia Mana 850. Open minded writers appreciated the versatility of the transmission in certain riding conditions, and for new/learning riders, but the closed-minded traditional MC rags all panned it, and sales has been totally lack luster. You can buy them as left overs for a song. The bike may have some other (Italian type) issues and/or attributes, but nobody can get past that CVT.

So are they offering 2 colors? Leftover cobalt blue and white? It could be a very new light shade of silver again.
I'd bet what you're seeing is that Matte Silver offered in Europe. Can't see them offering it here without also making a second traditional color available.

Btw, speaking of Europe, when shutting down a FJR in some of the other countries does the display say "See you later" in other languages? Does it add an "eh" to the end of it in Canada?? Just curious.

I found this when I picked up my FJR from the local dealership yesterday:

A LONG LINE OF 2017 FJRs IN THE NEW COLOR SCHEME!

Not really. It's a bunch of FJRs for the Senegalese National Police for VIP escort services. Photo from Yamaha Corporate website. Interestingly, no news there about the 2017 FJR.

PS: 08FJR4ME, YouTube shows your video was posted in June 2016. Not sure that actually reveals the 2017 model ... ?

Yeh, I kinda figured it wasn't the real deal but heck. I like to get folks pumped up. After seeing your pic with the white feejers no thanks, maybe some kind of yellowish peal white maybe but not pure white. They just would look to plain and blah.

Still waiting for the out come from the mother ship.

Dave

I dunno. You might be able to spice it up a bit . . .

Rumor has it they'll be banned from attending EOM following the attrition rate of this year's event....

I believe most were just road crashed and subframe damage. I know 3 were rideable with no problems.

Unfortunately, with all the tupperware that makes an FJR an FJR, they don't like to be crashed.

I think the radioactive green will sell well!

It might look a bit (okay, maybe more than a bit) Ninja'ish, but if one's eye can somehow isolate the green in the above rainbow pic and visualize it spread across the rest of the bike, that could be a sharp color for the FJR. Guess I'm just a little bored w/ the gray and black and silver color schemes of recent years and am hoping they'll continue with the '14 and '16 ventures into color.
I'm still dreaming of an burnt orange FJR, though.
Burnt orange would be nice. A colleague bought a brand new Dodge Challenger and drove it straight to the paint shop. He had it painted burnt orange with a black stripe. VERY nice!

Reason #26 to stay with a Gen2 or 1. Crash survivability much higher.

Just sayin,

Dave

Love the expectations and wish lists peeps have for the upcoming model(s) *Following!*

Thanks Geo for getting my Friday rolling! :)
