Just do it!! I see you are in Sonoma County. I lived in Windsor for a long time awhile ago. My mom and brother are still there. My brother is a deputy Sheriff there.

I have the same opinion - do not like black wheels. Re-painting to silver was first thing what I did on my 15’ FJR years ago. (was trying to achieve the same color as was on previous 07’ )
I have the hardest time trying to use this software! Ha! I'm not sure but is the 07 the only one w/ silver wheels?? Maybe the 03 or 04, whichever was the silver bike had silver wheels. I had the 07 as well. Had it for almost 14 years. LOVED IT!! I'm so glad I did what I did.

I like that dual color look, always thought that would be fun to do on the 07 with the Dark Cherry paint!

Yes. Like it. Basic aluminum. Clear anodizing would prevent days months years of constant aluminum polishing.
Yes, there is a clear coat on the powder coat.

I have never been a fan of black wheels - my (previous) '07 had and my (current) '11 has silver. My BMW F700GS has black wheels but that works for that bike - wouldn't bother to do anything about it anyway.
It will be interesting to see how your powdercoat resists chips and scrapes from tire changing. (I expect it will be OK.)

Yeah I am interested to see how it lasts. It supposedly baked and magnetized right into the metal. So it should be really strong and resistant to damage. Time will tell.
It is really weird.....I have black wheels on my BMW K1600 and I don't think about them at all. But when I got this new 2022, I eventually loved the blue color. It took me some time. Now I love it. But it just seemed like something was wrong when I looked at it. Something that kept the blue from looking as good as it should. For me, it ended up being the black wheels. I wasn't sure about it until I got it back. The silver just made the blue pop. It was pretty incredible I have to say. Looking forward to seeing the bike as it should be when I get the cases and the trunk.

I agree about the black wheels with the blue paint - looks more like a bruise! Silver is MUCH nicer.
My F700GS is red and the black wheels look OK with it. Bike was bought for abusing on gravel/dirt roads so the aesthetics are less important to me.
A bruise! That's it. Ha! Someone had given me the K1600 last year and I had sold my 07 FJR to my son-in-law. We got a small inheritance so my wife suggested I get the new FJR. Since I had the K1600 and owned an FJR for 13 years I looked at the Adventure Bikes. Really liked the 1250 GS and the new Triumph Tiger. And, I know some higher ups in Triumph. Almost pulled the string on the Triumph. Couldn't get away from the pull of the FRJ. Price, reliability and the fact that I love it was just too much.

No clear coat but it would cut down on maintaining the finish had I done so. They're a bit of work to keep looking good but I still think it was worthwhile.

Love the work. Very nice indeed. So for the wheels you have to take out the bearings correct?I don't usually think about the wheels that much. But for some reason the black wheels were dull to me. So I powder coated them and the calipers. Wasn't sure if I would like it or not. I thought they turned out really nice. The wheels needed it but the red calipers were personal. It even looks much better in person.
I really appreciate the work that Brandon did at H M ELLIOTT INC in Mooresville, NC and Team Charlotte in Charlotte, CA for taking off the wheels and bearings and the calipers. Caliper had to be rebuilt.
Now if Yamaha would just send me the cases and the trunk!!
And the brakes, did you have to split the calipers?
Did you clear coat the calipers as well?
Since I live in Mass I wouldn't go to your Powder Coater, however there are a few different types of PC. Do you know which you have?
Last but not lease would you mind sharing the final cost? My guess would be $500??

Too bad Mamma Yammy couldn't do this at the factory. It's clear they started to practice some major cost down efforts after the 6 speed was intro'd.

Hey thanks for the compliment on the bike! I really like it. Yes, the calipers are clear coated as well as the wheels. Yes, you have to take the bearings out of the wheels mainly because of the oven the wheels go into. Same thing for the calipers. But w/ the calipers I had to get all new insides. If I had known that, I probably wouldn't have done the calipers. So, I'm glad I didn't know! Ha! You nailed it. $500.00 for the powder coating. Maybe a few dollars more. What got me was the $325.00 for the parts to redo the caliper. I don't know what kind of powder coating I have . I will find out.
Yeah "Mamma Yammy" has always seemed to want to keep the FJR as simple as possible and always seems to be behind the times w/ it when it comes to the extras. They seem to have a philosophy w/ that bike and they are trying to stay as close to it as possible. Truly, the only thing that I wish it had was a really nice High Def computer dash and w/ that a way better computer. But that would increase the price a lot. They are able to keep this bike about 6 to 8 thousand below its nearest competitor. We can always find something to complain about. It is still my overall favorite bike.
I asked they guy who did the powder coating and who does it for a living what kind of PC he did. He did not know there was more than one kind. Do you what the other kind of PC's are?
