2up buffeting

This is where I always chime in to remind everyone that when having windshield discussions you have to consider if someone is commenting on Gen-I or Gen-II. I have owned both Gens with both stock and several different aftermarket shields. IMO there is no way to compare shield performance across Gen-I and Gen-II.

I totally agree with Keithaba's comments that a CB with flip creates massive turbulence on a Gen-I. The same design on a Gen-II works extremely well.

For the best shield I ever owned/ran on Gen-I, PM LuvToRide(Heidi) and make her trace the cutouts made on the CB with flip. Neither Rider nor Passenger ever complained of any buffeting once I refined the cutouts. And this is strictly opinion, but it was not so FUgly as some of the barn doors I've seen on Gen-I bikes.

Vandy,We run with the Givi and it works just great for us. I'm 5' 11", Debs is 5' 5" and she gets almost no buffeting with the shield in any position.
is the givi the name of another shield manufacturer? I had never heard of that one. I thought they made trunks and stuff for the bikes..

I guess i should have added that im of average hight and build.. 5' 10" and a touch under 200.. but the wife comes in a little small at under 5' and a wopping blimp at 120 lbs... she shouldnt really be out in the windstream that far.

Same manufacturer -- trunks, bags, screens, helmets, etc ---> Givi

The best thing is that you can get the YTS for less than 100 bucks to your door.

Vandy, there was a scratched aftermarket shield floating around for people to try. Not sure who has it now. Think Scab started the loan program.
It's HERE
It isn't there. I think you are referencing the V-Stream that was given to me by Scab, it was a Gen I whereas all the V-Streams on that list are for a Gen II bike. At least I hope that the scratched shield that I had was not on that list. It was given to me and after discussing it with Scab we decided to put it up for grabs so EVERYBODY could try it! A lot of people paid to ship it to the next person on the list after they had the opportunity to try it out, sure doesn't seem fair for somebody to decide that they don't want to pay to ship it to the next person in line and that only people willing to drive to get it are allowed.

Duplicate post, web connection was appearantly running a bit slow.

Interesting read. Supposed to do some two riding today. See what she has to say.

UPDATE:

Went on my first two up ride yesterday. All I can say is WOW. Definitely a bike that was made for two touring. My gal is 5'8" and very slender. I did slide the lever over to stiff as recommended and the rear suspension seemed compliant as ever. I did ask her how the veiw was and she said it was perfect and the seat was very comfortable. She had plenty of room on the foot pegs with the bags on as well. I did notice that the front end was a lot lighter with her on the back but that is to be expected. Once again, happy I bought that fork brace. Can't imagine the "waffling" I would of experienced without it. The bike was very stable at all attitudes. We achieved lean angles to where I was dragging my toe through the corners. So I guess this means no highway pegs for me!

OH, this is about the wind buffeting. We talked about that as well and she said it wasn't too much for her and that it was relatively quiet back there. However her riding experience and mine are both based off sportbiking.

A note to this is, think I created a monster. After we got home she was asking about the MSF courses, where to go, how much and how hard they were. I may have lost my PILLION rider but gained a riding buddy. She assured me that there will be plenty of days where she will wish to be chauffered around the mountains to enjoy the power and grace of the FEEJER! Cool. Cause there really is nothing like having a mate who shares your passion.

Later. It is time to ride.

I ride two up quite a bit, and with the stock windshield and seing micro swirl edging on, my wife is comfortable. I ride with the shield up full.
