Just picked up a set of the Road 2's from the only place in the world that has them... apparently. Cycle Gear charged $413 for the tires and their "Road Hazard" coverage... and I still have to mount them. There goes that paycheck. <_<

The good news is, this one probably will have the belts still covered in rubber.

Well, ya don't say where ya hang yer jacket, but here goes. Go to SW Moto (closed now, gone racin', back Monday), note the price they show (considerably less, be assured). Then, go to Dennis Kirk. They will beat the price, to your door, by at least a dollar. As a result, I got mine for, IIRC, $256, delivered. Shane and I then mounted and balanced, for which I give Shane a $20 for his trouble. As my superior maht skills compute, this is less, maybe even considerably.

Edit-oops, they're out too. Rears anyway. Timing is everything.

I was going to comment but, no matter how much I manipulated the words, it would've just made Aviatorkev feel bad.

The tires have been bought, lesson has been learned, no need to rub it in.

Aviatorkev, my only suggestion is to make sure you get alot of miles out of those tires.

Chalk that one up to experience. Next time, at least read HERE before you make your purchase.

Yep, fronts too.

The shop in town sells them for even less -- when they don't have them.... :)

"Magnanimous"....

LOL Thanks Murph!

Didn't check SWMoto's stock, but all the usual suspects (Dennis Kirk, Motorcycle Superstore, Bike Bandit) were backordered. My fault for waiting till the white stripe developed down the center of the rear tire.

I got 2 sets of Pilot Road 2s last spring for $270 shipped/pair. I do my own mounting and balancing, so that cost me $0, with the added benefit that the rims didn't get scratched, I know the tire beads seated properly, and I know they are balanced well. There are ways to beat the high cost.

I'm betting this is the last time you'll pay that much for tires, but no well learned lesson is cheap. Sixteen or seventeen tires ago, after paying a dealer too high a price to buy and have a rear tire mounted on my first Blackbird, I built a tire changing station and bought what I needed to mount and balance my tires. I already had a compressor, so excluding that, I probably have $150 to $200 in the remaining tools and supplies, so it's MORE than paid for itself.

Motoxoutlet.com has front and rear for $272.98 with about another $25 to deliver. You paid too much...but since it's too late, screw it. Enjoy your rides and know better next time. Truth be told, I probably paid too much for my FJR, but I got over it.

I'll try to make you feel better...

$400 for tires is cheaper than paying to have the bike picked up by a tow truck or possibly worse, like a trip to hospital from an accidental blowout.

Hey, that's my job! I really need to update the prices on that list.
Hey, even if the prices are dated, it's quick and easy to get contacts and links!

And about the whole experience, you know what they say about experience: Experience is what you get right after you needed it.

I just had front and rear Michelin Road 2's installed on my 04 FJR. Total cost was $363.60 tax and labor included. I am totally amazed at how much better the bike handles with these dual compound tires. It leans into turns much easier and the feel is noticeably lighter. I had the normal Pilot Roads on before these. The salesperson said these new tires will provide a longer wear life so the additional expense may pay off. I don't have the info right now how many miles were on the tires I replaced. I hope to find the paper work on that. I can't wait to ride my new tires later today.

Here's a thought. If you bought them at a local Cycle Gear, can you return them (and tell them the reason why). I think they may renegotiate a much fairer price. I know our local Cycle Gear (Charleston, SC) will dicker with some prices when challenged.

GEEZ! That is way too much.I know I could have gotten mine for less but I cant beat the service I got at Maxin Honda's tire program.Several local FJR pilots buy from them here in Dallas area.$373 mounted, balanced w nitrogen.Ditto to what C&C and Mr. Ashe said too.The local Cycle Gear here was just $20 less than the shop in Allen besides good tires are priceless compared to a trip to ER

Yeah, I read on their site about their price guarantee, and the diff between them and SW Moto is only about $30. The rest was tax and their roadhazard warranty, which I am happy to pay a bit extra for if the tires are three bills. I'll bet I can get the $30 refunded. I'll talk to them this afternoon.
