Tony, just wait till you podium or win your first rally. Then they will all be saying how great it is that you did it on an FJR. They will not care which Gen you ride. I actually envy you. Having two FJRs with two distinct personalities to choose from! One of each, what could be better?
I am afraid if you wait for that to happen, you will be disappointed. I am much too slow of a rider to
EVER compete with the big dogs. I lack the competitive "Edge" they seem to possess. I really want to rally
for the fun of it along with the camaraderie of meeting other riders. When I first started LD riding, I had a local
mentor who told me I reminded him of himself when he started out. He then asked me what I hoped to accomplish.
I told him among other things, I wanted to earn a 3 digit IBA number. He asked me how I wanted to finish should
I ever be in an IBR. I told him "I would just want to ride well and gain finisher status". He smiled and said "Good"
and proceeded to tell me what it would take to compete near the top. Multiple crashes when I was younger and
MUCH more aggressive riding resulted in the throttle timid rider I am today. As far as endurance I think I am OK,
But speed and computer savvy- forget about it. I am OK with mid pack finishes as long as I feel I rode well and
enjoyed my ride. The 10'n10 will be FUN!!! :yahoo:
The real truth be known... I LOVE the FJR period. Gen 1/ Gen 2 ... I have found a bike that suits me perfect!
