Tony, just wait till you podium or win your first rally. Then they will all be saying how great it is that you did it on an FJR. They will not care which Gen you ride. I actually envy you. Having two FJRs with two distinct personalities to choose from! One of each, what could be better?
I am afraid if you wait for that to happen, you will be disappointed. I am much too slow of a rider to

EVER compete with the big dogs... I LOVE the FJR period. Gen 1/ Gen 2 ... I have found a bike that suits me perfect!
I do not know you sir, and I realize that (for the most part) this thread has been for amusement purposes but I will be serious now. I have read your posts, I have read about your rides. I have discussed your exploits with my father and my riding friends. I will not be disappointed if you never win a rally, I have learned a little about what that entails and anyone who even attempts that is a man worth listening to. I just completed my first SS1K and you had an influence on that even though we never met and possibly never shall. I found myself wanting to be, just a little bit like you. To have the courage to take off into the distance on a great motorcycle, just yourself to blame if you are not man enough to go as far as you wanted...No I will not be disappointed in you.

There is no "Perfect Bike". But if you can't have more than one, an FJR in either Generation is pretty damn close.
