Paul,

Went to work and considered your route and timing. SkooterG already stated one of my thoughts... I was also bothered

about the BBG (?) the first day. I remembered when I decided to do the 100CCC, I was required to do a NON-Extreme ride

before attempting the 100CCC. THEN I had to do a BBG on the first leg to qualify to finish out the 2nd leg. Maybe one of

the Vets knows ??? I checked the 48+ rules and it did not mention it, where as the 100CCC rules do mention it. I think that

you are fine because you have done a multi day rally (?) Just want to make sure. IF you are required to do an extreme ride

before you complete your 48+, I think the best way might be to grind out the NE states... get a good sleep in... then knock

it out the 2nd day. Just a thought.

I found the toll booths and traffic and construction slowed me down. If you do knock out that first day goal- I think you

could PUSH your bikes the rest of the way in time. Well, maybe not your father... Is he taken the wing?

Gonna PM you tomorrow after I think out an idea...

Have a great ride- Jealous in Florida, Tony
Tony,

I checked with the IBA and got an email from Ira Agins confirming there is no "pre-requisite" ride that needs to be completed in order to do the 48+.

I checked again and the mileage to just get through DC into Virginia is ~1300. I think if we can achieve this, anything over that would be gravy. I'd really like to get through DC before the end of day 1, rather than start off day 2 dealing with DC traffic. Does that sound a little more reasonable?

Dad is taking the wing. I'm keeping a close eye on gas stops b/c you can be sure I don't want to push that damn thing! :D

Potential witness north of Seattle and right on your route! Happy to provide whatever assistance is needed...oil changes, tires changes, minor maintenance, etc. We've got an army of folks available up here in the Seattle area that can be called on.

No big plans during your listed time frame. Let me know if there is anything we can do.

+1 for the PNW Crew, we can also add any farkels while you wait.. :)

Something else you may want to consider is an alternate to the Puget Sound Basin in Washington. Instead of riding i-90 into Seattle, turn north on US97 near Ellensburg and follow 97 all the way to Canada at Osoyoos, then north to Prince George. Advantages: smoother pavement, many fewer pylons, less imperial entanglements. Disadvantages: I can't think of any. IT has been said previously but REMEMBER YOUR PASSPORTS. Best wishes!

A wonderful ride, I wish you the best of luck and weather - be sure to remember to post up your SPOT info, it will give me something to do.

Oh, by the way, save some extra cash for the Candy Butt Association penalties!

Thanks for the recommendation on the route. It looks like a nice road. Passport is current and ready to go! Thanks for the advice!

I'll get a SPOT page created and posted in the near future. One thing I've wondered about the Candy Butt Association, is there actually any candy involved? That might be worth paying the penalties...

Looking for a bit of advice on roads in the Baltimore and DC area. We were considering running 301 out of Delaware, through Maryland and reconnecting with I95 in Virginia between Fredericksburg and Richmond.

Is anyone familiar with this road? Better to take it or avoid it? It is pretty much a wash mileage-wise, adding only 3 miles to the trip, but it eliminates passing through Baltimore and DC, which could easily be time sucks.

Thanks for the help,

-Paul

Hey Paul,

There are a couple of Baltimore riders on the forum. Try a PM

to them directly. I think Hello Kitty/Randy IIRC. Can't seem to

find the photo I was looking for.....

Paul, What time of day are you looking at coming through 301 to 95? 301 is great out of Deleware, Sundays are full of returning beach traffic and 7 mile back ups are the norm. I have lived at both ends of that route and time is very important. If it is not rush hour M-F 0600-0930 or 1430-1800, jumping back on 95 via Rt 50 near Crofton MD would be better. 301 is a good road however, there are a lot of lights through Upper Marlboro all the way to Laplata. Afternoon rush hour on 301 is murder as well through Waldorf. There is also a toll on the Harry Nice Bridge as 301 crosses into VA ($3). Speed trap further south in Va near Bowling Green. PM'd with phone number if you want to discuss.

Planning, packing and preparation are now (hopefully) done. All that is left to do now is ride. We will be leaving at 8:00pm ET tonight. For those of you interested, here is the Spotwalla link:

Thanks to everyone who has helped with advice and route suggestions.

Good Luck! Beware that it's 95+ degrees down here in the Southeast. Heat index over 100. Make sure your drinking enough that you feel the "urge" every few hours. If you don't have to pee - that's a bad sign. Stop and go traffic will kill you on that fire-breathing beast of a bike.

If you're heading through Durham/Chapel Hill NC and need anything signed, let me know. I work right off Route 40 in Durham (exit 280) from 8:00 - 4:00 or so. Our office is very close to 40 - I can see the highway from my desk.

What route do you take to get back home?
I sent you a PM regarding the post above.

I think we're going to wander back through BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan and cross back into the U.S. in North Dakota. Not really in a rush, but not exactly lolly-gagging either.

Have a fun and safe trip good friend and my neighbor. He just left to meet up with his Dad. I will be praying for a safe trip.
