I don't understand why helmet mfg's don't jump on the new standard. Properly marketed, our old Snell 2005 helmets are so yesterday, obsolete, and practically dangerous. But the new Snell 2010 helmets, they're cutting edge safety. Maybe they can't get the factory up to speed fast enough? Dunno....

I will continue to subscribe to Roadracing World magazine. The articles are great and insightful. Although they update their website daily with news and info, they have found a way to make the magazine relevant. And if you think there is favoritism, editor John Ulrich has a longstanding relationship with Suzuki with his many race teams, yet, it's been quite some time that a Suzuki has held the top spot in any of their comparisons.

John Ulrich. Funny how a feller has elephant memory. When writing in Cycle News, circa 1974/75, he said something that pissed me off. Since then I just grimace when I hear about him. Then again, he's still writing, contributing. Guess I should give a forgive pass since I don't recall the transgressions now.

If you had just shelled out $10,000 for a center spread touting your latest helmet line, only to get blasted by a lead story in the same pub, you'd be pissed too. It's simple reality.
But it's also the reason American moto-rags are worth little more than butt-wipe..... they are, for all intents and purposes, just a mouthpiece for vendors.

That's why I do, in fact, shell out $10-$13 for an issue of one of the English moto-rags at B&N.... BiKe, Fast Bikes, Ride, et al are great compare to the boring-***, advertiser-centric Motorcyclist, Cycle World, etc.
The only rag worth buying still is Roadracing World. All of the manufacturers and advertisers know that the editor/owner, John Ulrich will call it as he sees it.

Are you saying Ulrich was the only one who wrote truthful scurrilous things about you? I would think you hold a lot of grudges...

Yeah, one thing for sure, you will never wonder where John stands. I do applaud his integrity.

Integrity -- found in the dictionary between Income and Irony.

A friend once told me (when I was railing against some U.S. Moto-mag article I disagreed with): "Remember, they (magazine publications) are part of the entertainment industry." That helped.

Years ago, Honda pulled its ads from Cycle Canada for what the mag (truthfully and not complimentary) said about a Honda they were testing -- the magazine went up hugely in my view...(sadly, that probably won't happen today?).

I often find Dexter Ford's articles controversial -- and appreciate them for that (even if I might disagree). Another scribe hard-pressed to find work in the moto-journo arena is John Burns -- another who I enjoy (for his non-trad approach). On a positive note: both CW and MC have replaced long-term chiefs (Edwards and Boehm) -- and none-too-soon (IMO). Edwards was infatuated with old-iron/customs, etc. and Boehm came-off as a shill for Honda (his former employer).

I think, if you (as moto-readers) really want to help improve the situation? -- don't subscribe; just buy the issues that look like they have something inside that might interest you. All those cheap subscriptions just send the wrong message to advertisers -- by (cheap) subscribing, you may be promoting the problem...?

The funny thing is... it was Ford's online article at motorcyclistonline.com that got me to subscribe. Actually had me thinking they were a serious mag and not just a dedicated channel for advertisers latest product.
