I'm thinking about buying a small capacity air compressor, maybe 3 SCFM throughput at 90 psi.
Some of the smaller oil-less compressors use AC commutator motors with brushes, similar to drill motors, etc. Others use standard capacitor start motors which don't have commutators and brushes.
For occasional home use will the motor brushes last for several years without replacement?
The commutator motor is desirable in a portable compressor because it's much lighter -- much better power to weight ratio than a standard induction motor. But it does require more maintenance -- brush replacement and commutator maintenance.
