O, Woe is me!!
I usually try to share my pics here after going to an air show, and this past weekend was the Gulf Coast Salute at our local Tyndall AFB. The Thunderbirds were the main draw, but there were many many other things to see!
1. Gary Ward in his MX2, an aerobatic all-carbon-fiber airplane with over 350 HP.
2. Inverted flat spin. I think the pilot of the last Delta flight I was on tried this....
3. Somewhere in here he just forgot which way to point the nose...
4. Negative g, anyone?
5. Kent Peach in his 90HP Interstate Cadet and his comedy act. He enters the airspace as an "unauthorized violation of restricted airspace," with very poor flying skills, in an airplane he built in prison.
Here he is about to touch the wingtip to the runway, breaking a bag of powder and releasing a cloud of "smoke." Notice the missing aileron, which "fell off" earlier in the act.
6. A couple of Mustangs were there. First, a P-51C restored as a "Red-tail" flown by the Tuskegee Airmen.
7. And a P-51D. this one has a second seat and an oversize canopy so he can sell rides when he's not on the air show circuit.
8. The schedule program said B-25, but they brought a frickin' B-17!!!! (Talking to them later where it was parked on display, they said their B-25 had a mechanical issue.)
9.
10. The Commemorative Air Force out of Dallas owns many of the airplanes used in the 60s movie Tora! Tora! Tora! and they put on a recreation of the Pearl Harbor attack, which they call, Tora! Tora! Tora!
11. Lots of pyro on the field!
12. A P-40 scrambles to take them on!
13.
14. Aside from the Thunderbirds, the top draw that everyone wants to see is the F-22 demonstration. If you've never seen this demonstration, drop what you're doing, get on Google, and find when it's going to be within 500 miles of you. GO SEE IT!!!! Jet fighters simply aren't allowed by the laws of physics to do what this thing does!!!!
15.
16. Looking through his own heat haze
17. Flat pass, just a few MPH under supersonic
18. Heritage flight. Yes, the F-22 is that big - the P-51 is the closer airplane!
19. And the Thunderbirds!
