I managed to keep the bike up. Don't ask me how.
Viagra for motorcyclists???

Congratulations. You have been awarded the dCarver Deer Slayer Medal for Meritorious Service in Keeping it Up During the Dance of the Forest Rat. :clapping:

Wear your symbol proudly. Glad you made it safely to California. Keep the updates coming.
With Willy Nelson singing in the back of my head, I am glad to say that I am "on the road again"!! The guys at Pasadena Yamaha came through, on time!! What a great bunch!! The Service Manager/Owner Kel and Technician Tom had the FJR ready at noon today as promised!! With a whole new from end, including winshield stay/subframe, headlight assy, various brackets, screws, spacers, and new nose and side "tupperware", the FJR looked brand new! If you are ever in the LA area and need service, do look up the folks at Pasadena Yamaha. I even used public transportation from downtown LA to their place, which really helped from a logistics perspective.. Super easy, given their location. They even gave me a ride to the Metro station!!

CODan also came through by having the detached windshield (a brand new Cee-Baily that I mounted just before I left home) shipped from Gunnison CO to Pasadena. Kudos to CODan!!

I say looked, as I am 300 miles from Pasadena in a little town called Bridgeport, CA up US-385 as I type this. And the new nose and headlight assemblies are covered in bugs. And no more forehead indentations from a lack of windshield. Man, it was hot riding though Mojave this afternoon. You know it's hot when 3 bars come up and stay up on the temp guage for miles!

About 40 miles from here, I saw a Forest Rat on a slope about 100 feet off the road. I should have taken a shot at the thing just for good measure. It stayed put, but it was an *** puckering moment, given last Tuesday's event

So, I am back in business!! Off to catch the Nevada state line pic tomorrow, then Crater Lake in OR.

Once again, I appreciate all the offers for help and well wishes. Many thanks!!

Glad to hear your success story!

I work in Mojave, but today (Friday) was my day off. Yes, it does get hot there!

Have a great ride. Maybe now that you've got your deer, the statistics will be on your side for a while.

Ride safe.

That's what I'm hoping!! I'm putting my faith in the law of averages!! (But still keeping two fingers on the front brake at all times!!)

Congratulations for getting your bike back in one piece in such a short time and Kudos to the folks at Pasadena Yamaha. I hope you have a safe trip back home. Watch those wooded areas. Sounds like we might have a deer hunter in our midst.

Good luck on the rest of your trip! I just got back from a cross country trip last week and I'll tell you that I was in constant scan mode for the forest rats. I saw a lot of antelopes in WY/SD but they seem to be much smarter than deer and run AWAY from the road as I approached.

Al, that's TERRIFIC! :yahoo:

I'd have NEVER thought anyone could get your bike back together in time for you. Super news. Hope you're having a blast riding back!

Here is another FJR rider living life at its finest and enjoying the people along the way, form here to there.

Congratulations on bike repair and have a safe trip home....

weekend rider :)

Just thought I would provide a little update on the journey... Although I have had Forest Rat sightings now every day since getting the FJR back together, I am glad to say that I have missed all of them! It's amazing that even this evening here in Deadwood, SD, I had one run right along side of me at the end of town by the Super 8 motel for those of you familiar with the area. Believe me, we are not talking deep woods here! They are everywhere!!

Being on the road so long gives one time to ponder... Thus, if I were King, all motorcyclists would be allowed to shoot any deer within sight of the naked eye, as long as you are on the bike, any time! Sorry if this offends the PETA types, but better them than me! I am amazed as to how many semis and pickup trucks I see out here with these huge grill guards. I now know why. And deer are stupid and unpredictable. If you see one, hit the "binders"! More typically follow. I was leaving Crater Lake in OR, I come around a corner and one is in the middle of the road. Next thing I know, three other ones join the first by coming down a 15 foot bluff!! They looked like mountain goats coming down the bluff at the edge of the road, just to meet their buddy. And all this right in front of me!!

So stops so far have been Crater Lake, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and Devil's Tower. If you get the chance to run the west end of Yellowstone, over by west thumb, then heading towards US 14, go for it!! I had wanted to run US-212 and/or the Chief Joseph Hwy, but both are still closed for the winter. However US-14 did not disappoint! What fun and what views!! Wow! We don't have anything like that in my part of Michigan!!

Overnight stays have included La Pine, OR (just south of Bend, OR), Missoula, MT, after running US-12 later in the evening than I should have, Jackson Hole, WY (cool town), Buffalo, WY, and now here in Deadwood, a gambling Mecca! (I figure I was lucky enough in Gunnison, CO hence no need to play the slots :D !!)

One more thing.. On my way here, I stopped in Sturgis, parked the FJR right in front and underneath the sign for the Harley Dealer and snapped a couple of shots. This FJR made it to this point without being in the back of trailer hauled around by a pickup truck!!

Cheers folks!! Thanks again for the support!!

I have no clue what is up with the PM function but I got nothing. Sorry it is so late but I have been on the phone all morning bike came but they forgot to put the 30 plates on so been trying to get this legal. What crummy weather to start my break in trip on and for you to continue on yours.

When you find a deer sticker that is appropiate let me know. I kept mine up also at 70 mph and threw the deer 100 feet down the road. Lost every bit of plastic and headlight on the front and side of the bike. The fix wasn't hard to do. Ron Ayres.com plastics were available and for a lot less that the dealer. Everything was a bolt on except the bent fork tubes. The bracket holding everything together was bent but easily straightened as it is aluminum. We should get a deer slayer club going. Good Luck
