Jen is doing really well and is ready to have her implant done to fix her skull in two weeks. She is truly a very very lucky lady!
Sadly, another family member non-ATGATT - this time a seat-belt not worn in a car -

Jen's cousin Courtney - whom she is close to - was a passenger in a truck that crashed early Monday morning September 21. She was not wearing a seat-belt and the airbag had been turned off. She is now in the hospital with severe head and brain injuries.

This one will not have a good outcome, I'm afraid.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE People please wear your seat-belts. Cars are dangerous too. You do not want your loved ones spending days and weeks watching the machines that keep you alive beep and wail, wondering if you will survive; and if you do, what you will be like.... or if they might have to "pull the plug"

ATGATT in the car too, please!! It only takes a second to "Click-it"

That is horrible! More thoughts and prayers for Courtney.

It's been a rough year, we are now in need of a second miracle and this one will need to be bigger than the first miracle was. At the same time my 82 YO mom in Knoxville has been in the hospital for more than 6 weeks and has just become well enough to move into rehab this week. We have done a lot of flying miles to support family, unfortunately most of it was easily preventable. Sadly, most of it was easily preventable.

Our thanks to everyone here for your concern and support! Keep the ones you love safe.

Sorry to hear of Courtney's injuries, like you said, so easily preventable. Hopes and prayers for her complete recovery. Some years back, one of my daughters was saved from what could have been serious injury in a head on collision by the airbag and seat belt in her car.

I apologize for not seeing this thread earlier. I read it all at once just now on my mobile device, and am impressed by the recovery Jen is making. She is a pretty girl and it is great to see her smiling under that helmet. I hope things keep looking up for her and the future gives her more reasons to smile and laugh.

I could relate to the story of making a split second decision and taking off riding into the streets without a helmet. That is how one of my friends lost her son, and she has been devastated ever since, it has been over 4 years, but he was her first love and her heart is broken and she has never been the same again.

Don't break you mother's (or your loved ones) heart. Wear ATGATT.

Keeping Courtney in my prayers also. Hoping for a good outcome.

My best wishes!

I just came upon this thread as well.

So sorry to hear about the pain and suffering your loved ones have experienced. My prayers go out to Jen and Courtney for continued healing both physically and emotionally.

Our family was not blessed with a second miracle. Sadly, Courtney was removed from Life Support on October 4th after a CT scan showed her brain function was nil.

She leaves 3 little girls - Peyton, Madison and Lily - and her husband Josh. She was the only child of my sister Lindy and her husband.

She was a passenger in a truck that missed a curve and hit a tree. A preventable tragedy - had she been wearing her seat-belt she might have survived.

PLEASE - ATGATT - every time. And nag your loved ones too.

Really sorry to hear this.

I may not know you, but, however indirectly, we're all in the same family. When it's appropriate, please pass on condolences from this side of the water.
