Jen celebrated her 29th birthday on September 7th!!!

A very very happy day no one ever thought would happen. Her impairments seem to have magically gone, even her short-term memory seems to have recovered.

She was cleared by her docs to fly from AZ to CA to spend the weekend with her sister. In two months she will have a titanium plate installed to cover the opening in her skull and doctors expect full recovery at this point. She recently went back to visit the ICU where she spent so many weeks and delighted the staff and doctors. As one nurse said "now I know what you look like vertical".

Many thanks to all of you who thought about her and prayed for her.

She promises to wear a helmet from now on....

In July we went to Phoenix just as Jen was finishing her stay at rehab. We provided a short sanity break for Jen's stressed out mom and got Jen out and about because she was beyond tired of being cooped up inside. Helen has a friend with a horse ranch and her friend is experienced in dealing with people with physical and life issues. Jen is stuck wearing her helmet until the titanium plate is installed and has needed to wear a neck brace to support the neck damage. Mom and Jen's sister jazzed up the helmet with some art work. With a brush in one hand and a comb in the other Jen was improving coordination and having a good time doing a version of 'wax on, wax off' here:

While we were in Phoenix we met up with Disaster Don for breakfast as Don was getting ready to look at something with 4 wheels that doesn't flip over or eject the driver over the handlebars. We all sat around and compared staples, stitches, plaster and fiberglass in a way that would have made the scene from Jaws look tame. Shortly after this picture was taken Jen had some surgery to fix issues with her right eye. Here's the scratch, dent and mar gang:

WOW!! That's awesome news! That just made my day 100% better. Alan, I'm glad you've kept us updated. I hope we helped as much as we think we did.

Here's to her recovery continuing to improve every day!!!

+1000

Worked at a level 1 trauma hospital back in the day, not many happy out comes like this.

JUJU sent for a full and complete recovery.

LIKE, LIKE, LIKE. Few stories start this badly and end this well. Sending out good vibes to all; yes, beemerdons, too

With all the people that have crashed and recovered we need a phoenix icon for our tag lines. Some people like Don will have them lined up like pigeons on a wire ;)

So important to share these stories, especially with new riders. They add up, and they make us all think about wearing the gear. The day I crashed, I was looking at my fun leather jacket, thinking it would look cool to wear, but a little voice said "no, wear the good gear." 20 min later I was picking myself up from sliding on the highway at 60mph, super glad I made the right choice.

I told everyone that would listen about my crash and the gear. Several friends and colleagues went out and invested in the good stuff. Hopefully they won't ever have to test it.

I hate to see these posts, but glad this one is turning out better for Jen.

Jen is doing really well and is ready to have her implant done to fix her skull in two weeks. She is truly a very very lucky lady!

Sadly, another family member non-ATGATT - this time a seat-belt not worn in a car -

Jen's cousin Courtney - whom she is close to - was a passenger in a truck that crashed early Monday morning September 21. She was not wearing a seat-belt and the airbag had been turned off. She is now in the hospital with severe head and brain injuries.

This one will not have a good outcome, I'm afraid.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE People please wear your seat-belts. Cars are dangerous too. You do not want your loved ones spending days and weeks watching the machines that keep you alive beep and wail, wondering if you will survive; and if you do, what you will be like.... or if they might have to "pull the plug"

ATGATT in the car too, please!! It only takes a second to "Click-it"
