I had a friend advise me not to put my helmet on the seat, but to put it on the ground next to the bike.

I asked why, and he said on the seat it was too easy for it to slide off or get blown off by a wind gust..thus messing up the finish and scratching the visor.

He then walked back to his bike to grab his wallet out of his tank bag and kicked his helmet, making it roll across the concrete... messing up the finish and scratching the visor.

Normaly if I can't lock my helmet in one of the cases, I just carry it with me. Folks see the helmet and flock to me for biker wisdom. Some tell me horror stories about someone they knew or heard about. Young children stare.

Appearently armored jackets and pants are not as easily recognised as the being motorcycle specific as walking into a resturaunt carrying a helmet. I enjoy the notoriety. It also makes a handy little "bag" for carrying the stuff you stole from the resturaunt.
