Another Z6 bites it

There is only a few that have complaints. Unfortunately, they are a loud bunch. It also seems to be a US problem, since there are no failures in EU that I know of and it is quite a popular tire for the FJR here.

I was going to get a set too, but I felt like a little experimenting so I ordered a pair of RoadAttacks. I'm sure that will get some flack here too, since there were problems with the front when some here tried them. But since they changed the front, and made a FJR specific version I am confident I won't have that particular problem. Wether or not I will like them, Iguess I will find out. But they are cheap so not all is lost when I don't.

Anyone know why there is a G-spec front only recommended for '06 FJR's? Why not the same for '03-'05's? I see the rear C-spec recommendation is the same for both models in their guide.

OK so now I don't know if I should worry or consider this an isolated case that could happen to any given tire.
I tried the Z6's on my ZZR and considered them a major improvement over the factory chosen Dunlop D220's. I've gone through 4 rear Z6's with no problem and my front Z6 made it 12K miles and still rolling.

My FJR came used with Z4's front and rear but the front is worn below the wear bars and slightly cupped so I ordered 2 new Z6 front's...which just showed up this morning. :blink: One for each bike. I'm having them installed tomorrow and leaving on a big ride through the mountains on the FJR. I hope I don't experiance any of the nightmare's I've just read about on this thread.

It's funny how tire opinions seem to vary from forum to forum. On the ZZRBikes forum the Z6 is one of the most respected and well liked tire choices. We've had NO reports of any problems or failures and typically run the front PSI at 40-42. The ZZR is only a few pounds lighter than the Z6 so I consider them close enough to use the same PSI.

I've had good experiances with the Z6's thus far so I hope it won't let me down on the FJR. The rear is a Z4 and looks to have only a thousand or so miles on it so it will be on there for a while.

I guess I'll 'stay tuned' here for more news about the tire saga and in the mean time, have to live with the choice I just made and hope it works as well on the FJR as it does on the ZZR.

I'm on my second set of Z6's. I put them on my ST1300, and they came from the factory on my FJR. Frankly I like them.

Most of the stories we are hearing seem to be of the nature of "My brother has a friend who works with a guy who read on the XXXX forum..........."

This has been going on for at least 3 years. They have pics, testimonys, carcasses galore. If Metz hasn't gotten the hint yet, it ain't gonna happen, ever.

What's amazing is that the M880's are great n the cruisers... but Metz's are POS on the sportbikes (ok, including the FJR here)

When I went to get new tires for my Bandit, the guys would not put Metz's on.... said the Dunlops were way better.... totally opposite of the Harleys...

think I'll try Avons for the Feejer... got 10000 on the stock threads....

and yeah, I ride like an old lady cause I is one...

Oh that and I forgot my registration in Ca... kinda kept to the speed limit...<G>

Tires dont' wear too bad when you're only doing 80... but it sucks big time... :glare:

Tell you what - flogged the hell out of my AE this weekend with Z6s on it. I like these tires.

I think these are rebadged Diablo Stradas as the tread pattern of the new Z6s are identical to the Stradas. May have happened with the merger of the 2 cos.

When they merged, the radial tire didn't even excist yet. Metzeler has been part of the Pirelli group since 1986. Dunno why peeps seem to think it is a recent thing, instead of 20 years ago.

They're different tires, but very similar. As you would expect coming from the same family. Pirelli typically lags behind Metzeler for about a year (as they were the the Z6/Strada), so there are likely to be some small improvements. However, tests systematically show a preference for the Z6 over the Strada for some reason.

Well I made it back from my 915 mile journey this weekend with a brand new Z6 on the front and didn't have any trouble. Most of Saturday's ride was in the rain and the Z6 had plenty of traction, then Sunday was a mix of rain and sun and the Z6 performed well in both conditions. I've used the Z6 on my ZZR since 2004 and never had any trouble so I guess you could say I'm comfortible with the tire.

It's a great wet weather tire and is very stable and predictable at high speeds and slow hairpin cornering.

As with all things, this saga will continue but I'm happy my the Z6's thus far...

42 PSI in a FRONT tire?? No wonder it shit the bed. I'd like to hear what the Metz rep says when he finds out that minor detail.
However, there may be a link between over inflating to max psi (42psi) cold pressure and the weight of the FJR. None of the Dutch riders run 42psi that I know of and most problems I have read here (all?) are with people that do run 42psi front pressure. That still don't make it right, but it may be an indication.

BT020s on the K1200LT - 42 front, 48 rear per the Dunlop rep. That's a much heavier bike, however. 42 is not unheard of for a front radial.

Sadly the ave to report front Metzeler problem on my FJR (original first tyres) after 5.500km.

I wonder if problem is with ceartain series of the tire. Dealer is acknowleding garantie and is replacing tyre.

Oh, yes. Tyre pressure used was 2.7bars (exactly as specified on FJR).

I'd rather have a tiny bit of wobble than split tires. I have a dealer that services alot of BMW's and they are runner upper 40's to 50 lbs front and rear. Go figure.
