If I listened while riding...it would be "One way out" by the Allman Bros.
Or "It Ain't Easy Bein' Green," right Toadnipples??? :p

Whatsamatterforyou? Are you "green with envy" looking at my nice round back tire....hey quit starin mr square tire!

That's "one way out"...not "one way in"...get outta here. :clapping:

Well now that this has degenerated (yes, I'm talkin' 'bout YOU!) into a discussion on riding tunes,

hows about deese blasts from da past?

+1 on Ramblin man, but even mo' bettah:

Whipping Post - The Allman Bros. (both of 'em still alive)

Don't Fear the Reaper - BOC

Riders on the Storm - The Doors

La Grange - ZZ Top (ah-how, how, how...)

...and of course

Low Rider - War

Nah, I wuz just teasin' Mike.

I mean, if we can have 6 or 8 oil threads a year we should be able to start a new tunes thread every other year or so, don'cha think?

I love music, and think it makes long rides (anything over a couple hours) far more enjoyable. I plug my Etymotic ER6i earbuds into my iPod for those longer trips. They keep the wind noise down so I can listen to tunes at a reasonable volume. For quick jaunts, I don't bother with tunes.

Getting through MN, SD, IA, MO, IL, IN, etc is painfully boring without some in-helmet entertainment.
And since this is everything within a days ride of me, that's just one more reason.

My bike has been called "the cockpit". Zumo instructions, MP3 music, Radar detector, Bike2Bike radio, cell phone, GF on the intercom; all piped/mixed directly to my helmet speakers. My biggest problem with music is how ZZ Top attracts blue lights.

Maybe the answer to my question is somewhere in this thread but if so I have missed it.

Can someone tell me how I can use my GPS and iPOD together in the same ear plugs?

I want to listen to the iPOD but hear GPS directions when they occur.

Is it possible? Surely it is.

Thanks guys.

Mixit 2

Or You could make a simple combiner, but the Mixit does more and better.

I have been using the AmpliRider for about 1.5 years. I am very happy with it's performance and features, and you sure can't beat the price. The company's customer service is excellent too. For example my remote volume control stopped working after over a year of being exposed to more than it's fair share of heavy rains. And Gary, the owner sent me a brand new volume remote on his dime.

Ditto on the Amplirider, I was using it before buying my Starcom and still may use it to tie in a few different audio sources... Overall a great product

Been two wheeling (the motorized version) about 40 years now and I began a personal "First" today....
I rode a bike with music! :dribble:

I know, it's not a big deal for a lot of you hosers, what with all your Zumos, iPods, Zunes, Blackberrys, microwaves and espresso machines mounted on your Feejers, but after all these years, I finally did it.

One of the ladies I work with got a 32 gig iPod for Christmas and asked me if I wanted her old Zen. Sure...why not?

She brought it in today and I spent half the day loading music in to it for the ride home. Lots of old Prog Rock like King Crimson, Yes and Rush, plus some old favorites like Buffalo Springfield, Jefferson Airplane and The Who. NO personal music collection should be without Quadrophenia!

Had to stop by the local WallyWorld to get some earbuds, 'cause the units that came with the Zen just will NOT stay in the ear when you pull a helmet down.

So, for the VERY first time in over 40 years of riding, I drove home with tunes! But here's the rub....I'm not so sure I like it. Not the selections, mind you, but having music playing while riding.

For those of you that do ride with speakers in your helmets or ear buds firmly implanted, did it take you some time to become comfortable with it? And I don't mean the physical comfort, but the mental comfort?

I don't want to make any snap decisions about NOT doing it again, but it really seemed to detract from the ride, not add to it. Having those old, familiar tunes playing in the center of my head is cool, but it felt like a major distraction. Kinda like driving through a mountain meadow in full bloom, and holding your nose so you don't smell the flowers.

40 years of hearing the wind, listening to the motor winding, the tires sizzling, the pure mechanical joy of riding...it all seems too distant. Too unattached.

I'm gonna give it a few days and see if it's just getting used to something new, but I wanted to get some opinions from my forum bruthas and sistuhs. My initial feelings are to give the damn thing to the wife and continue to enjoy the ride for what it is....The Ride.
In traffic, I don't like music. The brain can only handle so much input. Even in my car, if I am negotiating heavy traffic, I turn off the radio. Out on the two lane in the country, is a different matter.

I've been running an Escort RD but it was kinda useless on its own. Was debating which direction to go. Either hear the detector through speakers/earbuds or get visual alerts via a Heads Up type device.

I got an amplirider and a pr of Ety ER6i. The RD is now a useful tool and the Etys block as much wind noise as foam plugs so I'm pleased.

The last personal audio player I had was a 90's vintage cassette player, I did have it connected to helmet speakers but the sound was never acceptable.

I can go without music easily. My home system gets used maybe once a week and that's only when I sit and actually listen to it, don't care for background music. So I wasn't real enthused about having riding tunes but I seemed to be already on the path.

Just this past weekend I picked up an MP3 player. My first one ever! What was I getting myself into, I wondered. I've never downloaded any music, so I ripped a few CDs and, presto, instant music to go.

Today, for the first time, I rode with tunes. A bit disconcerting at first. Then.... I came upon a stop sign. And a Journey track came on. I needed volume! & cranked it up. Damn. A few seconds after leaving the stop sign I looked down to see I was doing 120mph.

Gotta be careful with this thing.
