IIWM I'd skip both the 13" and the retina (to stay on budget). If you're going to be doing video/audio editing you'll wish you had.

The integrated video chip seems to be having lag issues with the retina display. It's a simple matter of pushing too many pixels.

The MB Air has always been seen as a computer for those who mostly do undemanding tasks like surfing and work processing. A 13" MBP with only the integrated GPU chip and then a Retina display would seem to move the lower level MBP into the MBA tier of perforance expectations.

I had a pro for about 3 years and loved it.... till the mother board fried. I only used it for pictures and music so $1200 for 3 years of use really pissed me off. Apple wanted $800 to repair it so I went back with a pc. Ive had several pcs last twice as long without a single problem but after being on a mac for 3 years it sure does suck going back to a pc. Unfortunately I didnt have the money to spend on another one and I was pissed with apple because logic board failures on that year model are a well documented problem.

Thanks for the additional info. I went to Best Buy last night just to look and ask questions as I'm in no huirry.

They have an Apple employee that works there and I spent a little time with him. He went through the built in video editing software and it looks to be more than I need so I will have some room for growth. Again I am thinking about getting a Go pro so the video editing will be by a beginner.

I am leaning very hard towards the Macbook Pro with 8G and I7.

It all boils down to buying the best unit I can get for about $1500.

I love my Macbook air 13" that I picked up in the USA around Christmas . My boys both have 13" Macbooks and I have a 27" iMac as well ,nothing is as good at editing as the 27" . I would recommend the Air as it is very fast light weight and solid state memory excellent for travel , far more usable than an I pad and not much heavier . My boys school have every student using Macbooks there is a problem with a few cracking the case but they throw their bags around with the computers in them ! .

Well I went with the refurbished 13" Macbook Pro with out the retna display.

It's the 8 G I7 model at just under $1300.

Ordered from Apple last week and when I got back from a 11 state National Park Stamp hunting ride on my Tenere it was sitting in the house.

Taking some time getting used to it but so far I like.

Thanks to you all for the tips and feedback.

Congrats, Scoop. I put a bunch of time into the post I put up for you last month, and I know a lot of other guys did as well. So glad to hear you got it sorted out. I've heard some great things about refurbished Apples. Hope you have a great experience. When ya get it, go online, and download a program called coconut battery. I'm pretty sure it's free. We run it on all the Macbook Pros at school. In case you've not heard of it, it tells you what condition your battery is in, original charge capacity, current charge capacity, current state of charge, how many cycles (charge and discharge) it's been through, and exactly how old it is. It will provide you with some very valuable info about your new refurbished computer.

Thanks Gary.

As for the refurbished unit I received . They state that it may have blemishes or minor scratches but this unit looks new to me.

Also thanks for the app tip.
