This is the latest article in the Los Angeles Times regarding the circumstances leading to my son Jordan and Marine Cpl Jonathan Yale being awarded the Navy Cross for "extraordinary heroism". I just thought some of you who have followed it from the start might be interested.....This is the first time that I found out that he had volunteered to stand post at the gate.

Marines.....Semper Fidelis

General Kelly's letter to Tony Perry the correspondent for the times.

This, once again, reminds us what a fine young man you raised, and the extraordinary level of intestinal fortitude it took to stand and pull the trigger when everyone around him choose to run except his fellow Marine.

Semper Fi.

Chris,

The article from the LA times and the letter from General Kelly must be, if anything can be, wonderfully therapeutic for you. I found a number of points in them to be very moving. Staff Sgt Grooms says he "was a hero, and a damn fine person." He also says they were a "couple of ordinary Marines doing an extraordinary act of selflessness." The local Iraqi's were quoted as saying that they couldn't understand why they didn't run and that they were crazy for doing so. I know that this will be cold solace, and I'm not telling you anything new, but you have managed to raise a damn fine son. My heart lives with you. Respectively, Alan.

Chris,

Another example of the 2 types of people in this World......

Those that call on others to get things done.

-and-

Those who get it done.

As you know, your Son was the latter of the two. Jordan was an obvious Hero and well deserving of the Navy Cross.

I salute you for bringing up such a courageous American.

You and your son remind me daily of how proud I am to be an American; Semper Fi, gentlemen...

It is very fulfilling to serve in the Patriot Guard Riders to ease the burden of you Gold Star Families.

I promise I will never forget your son Jordon and his selflessness and his part in securing freedom for so many.
