Marcus - I'm gonna take you up on your offer to take care of this before the tech meet - I also want to look at your smuggler while I'm there - I'll PM you with a phone number to arrange a good time ..
Thanks guys -- I'll bake cookies ... do you prefer oatmeal and raisin, or chocolate chip ?

Riona
I like oatmeal raisin..

Clutch plates do not need soaking, cluch does not need bled. The auto-clutch engagement point needs adjusting. Easily done at a dealer for $180 or somewhere around here you can find out how to do it yourself.

How do you know? Have you seen the fluid? Bad fluid can affect the clutch engagement...so how do you rule that out?

Ohhh...I get it...yer stirrin' the pot. I see that is a regular feature of your posts...now where is that button? Okay here it is...fixed.

Fine, don't listen to me, no one else does. Have fun chasing the problem.

Well, my 09 FJR (NOT an AE) does this also. It's getting really annoying. Fine when warmed up, but a bucking bronco right after first start and when just starting to engage the friction zone. I have been assuming it's the dreaded FJR dry clutch plates. Someday I'll stop being lazy and soak them. Until then I'll just keep being annoyed by this POS Gen II until it is warmed up.

Got yur solution.

Since you say Don (your illegitimate Stepdaddy) is getting old and senile, take your POS G2 over to his garage late some nite, swap it in his slot for his G3, ride it home as your new 'Gen III Almost-a-POS' bike!

He'll never know what hit him

and your annoyance problem is solved!

Well, this evening Markus worked on my snatch ... he flushed and replaced all fluids - oil, clutch and brakes - being very gentle with around the nipples.

Result - much smoother and I enjoyed a nice long ride.

I'll ride again tomorrow once the bike has sat overnight and see if the problem of getting smoothly off when cold has been fixed

If not, then we have "soak the clutch" and "auto-clutch engagement point" as things to try next.

No pictures..sorry, but the fluid that came out of the clutch was a dark brown, the brake fluid was a light brown, the oil was pretty clean, it had a K&N oil filter and did not change filter.

Good on your Markus for being gentle around the nipples... :D

Sounds like with some good maintenance, Riona's snatch should be a thing of the past.

I used the Mitivac and silicone hose for the nipples, it's softer and seals better.

Could you feel the snatch when you rode it after using all that silicone around the nipples?

I did not test ride it, Riona took it around the block and seems to be better, this morning will be the test.
