Hello,

I was wondering if any of you have some insight on this.

I want to wire/tap into the power windows and run a switch to use in case I am unable to open the doors.

Then I would just roll down the window and open the door.

Thanks Mike

Versus simply taping or hiding a key somewhere like most people do, just curious why you'd want to...

You would need to find a source of switched power,

install a switch that's both hidden and weatherproof,

route a wire,

and hope the battery has enough charge.

???

The window circuit is only hot with the key, but on the GM cars I've had (none since '87, though) and my '95 Ford, I was able to remove the power window circuit breaker (not fuse, metal-cased self-resetting circuit breaker) and jumper from the fused side of the power lock breaker to the power window circuit. That put the locks and windows on the same circuit, and made the windows hot without the key. No problem, since I don't have kids. Once that's done, a switch in parallel with the window switch, anywhere on the car, would do it.

Apparently you're having trouble with the door lock or release handle? Otherwise, just hide a spare key.

Well if the handles break you can not get in the car.

That said if I could wire a switch in the trunk then I could roll window down and open from inside the car.

Thanks will try to find location and see if I can do that.
