Have reserved 4 double bed rooms at Best Western John Jay in Calexico CA. I have the confirmation numbers. We have to take the rooms for nights of 12 & 13. At this time the departure time is o/a 1930 Friday night 13 April. Been watching weather up there and this week has been plenty of snow and temps down to 17*F. We will make a decision to press on with the ride on 9-10 April. I must know by 12 April at 0800 if you do not want to have a room.

Rooms as I know them:

Skyway/TurboDave

Hal/GZ

Steve/?

Barabus/Fairlaner

If anyone is missing please advise, also let me know by PM that you read and understand this. Thanks, hope wx clears up so we can do it. Safety is PARAMOUNT OF COURSE!

TWN seems to be missing?

Richard

Good Info, Steve - I'll have my laptop with me so we can check just prior to leaving the hotel.

Everyone - by now you should have your Mexico Insurance and Canada card taken care of.

The Weather.com forecast for the 13th for Sunburst, MT, (9 miles south of the border) is predicting 59/37, partly cloudy. However, rain and snow this week - so this could get interesting.

Central Alberta forecast is for 9 to 10 deg C (48 to 50 deg F) from April 8 through to the 15th.

Southern Alberta forecast is for 53 to 55 deg F from April 8 through to the 15th

If need be We can send out a couple Dog Sleds to rescue you guy's if it turns bad.

Thanks for the info, BF,

So - is this daytime temperature?

Any idea what the lows might be?

KD

Those are the Daytime Highs, the Low is forecast to be around 0 to +1, (32 to 33 deg F)/

What time will you guy's be hitting the border?

with a 20:30 departure on the 13th, (let's see, some heavy time related math here, let me check with my daughter......)

ahhh.. make that about 17:30 - ish Saturday - time zones NOT accounted for here -

Some of us will be continuing up to Lethbridge to hit 1500 miles for a BBG, and others may yet do something even .... well.... more different than that. We shall see.

The big concern with the freezing temps is the possibility of ice - and if it's dry, we shouldn't have a problem. So - we are keeping an eye on the weather, with a go/no go decision to be made on the 9/10th. If the trip gets washed, then it's plan B.

Looks like a better destination out of Calexico our current departure point is up CA 86 to I 10 to Ontario to sylmar and then up I 5 to Vancouver CA. Route is 1500 miles +/- and the weather looks more like rain and warmer temps than up to Coutts> Comments requested. Chose to retain Calexico because RenoJohn is planning to meet up with us on 13 April at 2130 and is an easier start point.

Certainly easier on weather - and this would allow us an early morning departure instead of the evening departure.

Were we to leave at 04:00 Friday AM, arrival would be 02:00 Saturday AM? Does this make sense?

Might wanna re-think this Dave.

I-15 is lonely up north, I-5 gets crowded and can be VERY jammed in lots of places. I think a swerve in the states is fine, but I'd stay off the 5.

JMHO.

GZ, this is just a suggestion for others to be thinking about. I am concerned about ice on the I 15 up north through Montana. recognize there are some large cities to transverse on I 5. I value your input. On another subject, stand Standby for another ECV package in the mail.

Alas, Richard, The Nut won't be joining us on this ride. He will be missed. :sadsmiley02:
True, I'll miss the ride, but I may still come down to see you off. Details on a couple of jobs pend my decision...
I hope so as me and Barry have a fun ride planned heading down to Calexico.

R
I'll ring you in the AM for details.
Ok cool.

Well, the new dates are not going to work for Richard and myself (Fairlaner). We will not be able to see you off. TurboDave thanks for the room reservation, but we must cancel. Let me know if you need me to call or do anything. Happy Easter.

Sorry you two good guys can't see us off. right now the weather outlook is very iffy for the ride. Will make a group decision on 10 April. I will make necessary changes on the rooms at Calexico.
