Has anyone had this happen??? I was putting on a ecm shelf (smitty Built), and noticed what looked like water on the batt. side. Also noticed paint on the hold down, and the CHROME :D blaster horn was eaten away  !!! Small split right in the corner.. Local Stealer said he would TRY to get it covered..What the Hell does that mean.. I have a YES, if not..that dealer wants $125.99 for his Yami batt. Our good friend Gary McCoy at University motors only wants $77.00 but he is out of stock...Worst case, it will cost me a extra $50. to ride this weekend...Smitty

Unless you go to Rural King and get a $20 battery to hold you over. Or pirate one from another bike. Don't those dirt mongers you have in that shop of yours have batteries?

Gary say how long it would take to get a replacement?

It would be interesting to find out if YES does indeed cover batteries.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, there, Smitty. You probably just shouldn't get AIRBORNE as much as you do! (It was probably that concrete compression we hit on Saturday).

Here's a cheap replacement if you aren't in a hurry:

Apex Battery

See? I told you all those wheelies would eventually break something!

And, $126 for the battery?! Take Gary's quote over to them and make 'em blush with embarrassment!

Check around for a Gel Cell Battery, Don't have to worry as much about leaking acid all over the fairing. My FJ1100 was terrible on cooking batteries, would cook a battery a year. So I put in a Gel Cell battery and no more problems.

I thought the stocker was a gel cell. There was not a lot of water, but one drop is to much. The problem is Gary does not have one in stock. I am on vacation this week and next. I would hate to miss that much riding. They said they would know by tommorow afternoon if the yes would cover it. Id so, I have no problems, if not I will have to see if I can find one...or bite the bullet..

Almost all of today's bikes- including the FJR - ship with sealed lead-acidd AGM (Absorption Gas Matt) batteries. People call them gel cel but they're different from the older-technology gel cell batteries. AGM is replacing gel cell in nearly all motorcycle applications.

AGM's are commonly available for the FJR from a variety of online and brick/morter sources for about $50-$60 for the clones like Westco to the official Yaesu for about $75-$85.

A split battery is uncommon, but happens. Yamaha should cover it, although they can claim misuse/abuse. If there is something non-standard about how you have the battery secured and mounted, you're probably SOL.

As in, if, uh, you crashed????

I'd give the Wal-Mart or Pepboys a try as well. Good thing about Wal-Mart, when the Yamaha battery comes in, take it back and say it won't fit, get your $$ back.

That's called fraud, albeit a minor case. Still fraud though.

Not only is it fraud, but that drives up the cost of goods I have to buy. Don't cheat, it is not good for anyone!
