Big Sky (may I call you BS?)

I am a died in the wool dead head. I have (almost) every recording including the somewhat rare 5 disk collection "So Many Roads". I could listen to Dead tunes all day long, but I really have to be in the right mood for it. I also have some solo efforts by Bob Weir and Jerry.

The best live concert I ever went to was Garcia touring solo in 1980(?). We saw him in Hampton Virginia, I think it was Clapton as the opener. Maybe not, I could be confusing shows. Anyway, it was a fantastic jam session and I was only slightly stoned at the time... ;)

Yikes!! What part of "10 songs" didn't you understand?

Dylan's - "Knockin on Heaven's Door" is a must. Some versions better that others, as with most of Bob.

Personally I enjoy the often off key screams from my passengers....especially the fat ones....nothin like wheelies to a fourth octave B-flat !!! No pre-packed tunes for me thanks...jacks with my pacemaker and I'm waaay too stupid to multitask like that. Plus I play in a blues band...the bike is my quiet refuge, but to each his own.

Blessed and hummin',

Bobby

"BS" works. I'm no "Dead Head" - that is a reserved special status, though I am certainly a Dead "fan." I first saw them in 1975 in Missoula, MT -in the days when they were playing through 250 speakers and used several semis to haul the sound gear. I think they used to do 12 hours or so of sound checks prior to a show. They also stipulated in their concerts that the venue would allow them to play until 5 a.m. if they so desired. Unfortunately this night some asshole in the audience bounced a plastic pitcher of Mr. Wier's head, ending things about midnight. I was VERY stoned, but remember the show well. The music was incredible and the fidelity was amazing. You could hear Garcia's fingers bumping over the frets.

Adopted brother of mine and a biological brother play in a band around these parts called "The Fossils" and they play what is called "authentic hippie rock." They do quite a few dead covers and do them well. My favorite is "Eyes Of The World." In their last set they usually do a Dead medley in true Dead style, melding tunes together, morphing in and out and back and forth. Always a fine time.
