I got almost an hour of seat time this afternoon and the lenses worked!

My basic needs are met, but there is room for improvement. I dont know enough about focal points and parallelux and such....

Just remember the stronger the magnifier the shorter the focal length. A +2.00 will focus at about 16 inches and a +1.5 at about 20 inches. Do the trombone thing and see if you need to move closer or farther to see well. If it's closer reduce power and if it's farther increase.

Multi-focal contact lenses are the way to go!
I've often thought about these but haven't asked the eye dr. yet. I've never worn contacts but it seems to me the dryness issue would be a major concern with the increased air flow when riding. I wear a full face but rarely have the visor completely closed.

I've been wearing contacts for about 15 years since glasses started getting in the way of sports and other activities. Hated wearing glasses for hockey, skiing or other active sports. I've never had an issue with dryness as contacts these days are pretty breathable. I will typically wear contacts for 12-16 hrs at a time regardless of what I'm doing. YMMV

You'll never know unless you give it a try...

I'm an experienced contact lens wearer, and I find dryness from prolonged, high airflow can definitely be a cause of discomfort for me. So wearing the bifocal safety glasses addresses not only my near vision accommodation, but also reduce the drying effect to a comfortable level. Clear bifocal safeties ones at night, smoke ones during the day. YMMV...

To the OP: Chuck, I hope sticking those magnifying lenses on your face shield is working out for you. It seemed like a simple solution to the specific problem you were trying to address: unable to see "gauges, song data on the radio, street names on gps," and your glasses being uncomfortable and fogging up. I'm not sure how a different style of glasses would help you, let alone converting to contacts, when apparently you don't even need to wear your glasses full time, but after all, complicating things is just another service we offer.

Thanks Mike!

I have put quite a few miles on with this mod and while there is room for improvement, my goal has been met.

The variety of responses goes to show that we all have different needs / likes. Or there is more than one way to skin a cat.
