I just found out that the powers that be are starting to monitor everyones computers here at work, both for porn, but also just to see what we are doing. Considering how much time I spend on the forum, they are probably justified.

So does anyone have any suggestions on how to surf the forum, and not get caught? As soon as I heard about this, I signed off from my desktop computer, and then fired up my laptop, which uses a Verizon air card to connect to the web. I would have to believe they would have a hard time monitoring what I am doing on this computer, since it is using the Verizon card. I realize it can be done, but it just makes it a little harder for them, and I doubt they are going to go that far.

If you sign up for the RSS feed all new posts will come to you. You can't post from there but you can read all the new posts. You can use Outlook to manage you RSS feeds.

The only way they can track you from you laptop w/aircard is if they have installed software to do so?

They are in the process of getting us "New and improved" air cards. Would the software to track things be on the new card, or would it be something I would have to install into my laptop?

easiest way is to the hire the head IT guy yourself. make it where he only answers to you. also learn more about the system than everybody else and if anybody gives you any trouble lock them out of the system for a while

My concern about using a proxy is that my employers will still be able to monitor my work station ,and see that I am online all day, but now it is at the proxy address. Again, I can only assume that the only way for me to keep them from electronically looking over my shoulder is to use my laptop, which is completely independent of their server, for surfing. the only problem there is that it looks a little odd when I am spending a good deal of time on my laptop, compared to my desktop computer, as people walk past my office.

This avoiding doing work stuff is a lot of work.

One theory:

Figure out who the worst offender(s) are in your company and carefully watch to see if they get dinged or not. Don't surf as much or as risky sites as them.

The theory being you don't have to run faster than a bear...just faster than your friend.

However, if they start eying you....they may be watching to see if you get eaten.

Do what I do. Surf from your personal phone.

If you can't figure out a way around it, you can always screw with your IT folks by installing a firewall program like ZoneAlarm and block all activity. Then they can't remote into your computer without your permission. Granted, they can still see what web sites you've been to, but IT guys/gals hate it when you do the firewall thing.

To be honest guys, I enjoy the game. I asked my boss last week how I could get fired, and he said I couldn't. I asked if I took a big steaming crap on his key board if that would do the trick? He said no, he would just get one of the zombies here to clean it up.

I apparently do too good of a job, but the fact that they feel the need to electronically spy on people pissed me off. The fooking company has grown 3 times over in the last three years, so things can't be all that bad.

Like I said, more than anything, I like being a pain in their ass when they come up with stupid ideas like this.

Along that line, I like the firewall idea. It will drive the IT doofis a little nuts.

When they get tired of just watching where you surf, they may just choose to completely block your options.

When/if you go down that path - this works for me.

Everything you need runs off a USB stick and bypasses the majority of the monitoring/filtering crap.

You could just surf on breaks and at lunch, not much they can say about that. My company monitors too, but they don't do anything with the info they gather.

Well, if the resources belong to the company, like the hardware and network and connection, then you are not only wasting company time, but also company IT resources. Unless, of course, you work for Yamaha and you are the guy they pay to monitor web for complainers and such.

Honestly, if you are productive and your company is satisfied with your work, both quality and quantity, then you don't have anything to worry about.
