The thief has stolen as many as 8 bikes in one night.

He is almost unstopable. He steals to order. Not even a Gated Community can stop him.

h34r: Watched the segment you mentioned and thought that the info gained was of little use. The folkes interviewed just gave basic info on keeping your bike safe....ie. locking the ignigtion and locking it up. The one thing I did learn from the theif being interviewed was an eye opener. He said the best place to rip off a bike is at an event, the bigger the better. I usually felt more comfortable in a group but he said otherwise. I have heard most bike theives will just come up to the bike if it is locked and a group of 3 or 4 will just lift the bike up and put it in a van or truck, locked or not. And those on a trailer will try to steal the whole truck, trailer and bike. I like the remote I use that doesn't let the theif know an alarm is being actvated until its too late. Hopefully for him. :assasin:

Just make it tough for them.

- They want simple. Make it harder

- They want to go un-noticed. Force them to be more conspicuous.

- They want in and out quick. Make it a longer affair for them.

I use transport grade 70 chain (Boron) through both wheels and around an immoveable object. Locked with a contractor grade padlock (Boron). I cover the bike.

Getting through that chain is possible, but it's going to take time, make noise, and make you very conspicuous. Hopefully they decide that there are other bikes that are easier prey. :lol:

Part two was useless. How about that interview with a Florida cop? "We have a task force looking for people who aren't comfortable on a bike." Yeah, those pro thieves probably look out of place, eh? Barney Fife!

I agree that the majority of the piece was of little use, however the interview w/ the uniformed p/o was just for window dressing. You'll notice they didn't interview the auto theft task force officers. If they really told what they look for, the thieves would change their tactics. I think the show was made to merely raise awareness. In that vein, it was probably successful.

I have tihe Scorpio alarm on mine. Really cool features including 2-way communications with the bike and the remote. I would hope that when someone tries to steal MY bike, I am close enough to stop them!

A well placed .44Mag or plain ol' .45 slug will usually do the trick

I stop bike thiefs by carrying insurance with low deductibles and I have a couple of bikes in my garage that really need to be in someone else's garage. James, do you know a good place to park a bike in the Tri-Cities to attract a bike thief?
