Biker or Motorcyclist

I have always considered myself a motorcyclist rather than a biker. I ride for the sport of it, not to be seen or heard or to establish an identity.

I tend to think many others on this forum are motorcyclists as well, if you see the distinction.

Make sense? Other perspectives?

I'm with you. I've always thought of myself as a motorcyclist. When I think of bikers, I think chaps, doo-rags and leather vests.

Do you ride or are you a rider? Is it what you are or what you do? Motorcyclist sounds like a connoisseur and Biker sounds like a fat guy in leathers at the local pub.

I am with Billy. To me the choice is Biker vs. Rider.

I consider myself a motorcyclist. I ride daily, commute all the time, and wear protective gear which does NOT really match what a "biker" would wear riding my bike. I ride to ride, not for an identity.

However, now my work colleagues consider me the "biker" of the unit. Although it's nice that they no longer look surprised when I roll in on a 40 degree rainy day. lol.

Funny... I always thought that the label "biker" would be associated with a bicycle if it did not already have the negative stigma of being associated with non-conformist 1%'er motorbikers.

I believe that if I were to use the term "biker" to identify myself, I would be labeling myself as a wannabe 1%'er, just like a lot of the folks riding a certian American brand.

I therefore refrain from using biker to identify myself, and prefer motorcyclinst, motorbiker, or just about anything else.

I prefer to be a "Individual" who rides a motorcycle when it pleases him.

Any thing else would be unacceptable.

Language is ambiguous. Sometimes I think it is intentionally so. In any case, call me rider, biker, motorcyclist, or almost anything else and I don't care.

Labels are always a little too restrictive for me. Personally I don't care what category someone might put me in, I'm having more fun riding than those who don't
