My father is 77 yrs old. He is having triple bypass tomorrow morning.

I am asking for those of you who pray to keep him in your prayers.

He raised 9 children on a sergeants salary. Has 19 grandchildren and

5 great grandchildren. He is as close to a saint that has lived.

He has conducted his life in a manner that anyone would be proud to have been a part of his life.

Thanks in advance for your prayers. Mike in Fremont, Ca

Update

So far so good on the surgery. They have him closed up and in intensive care. thanks to all for the support whether posted or in your thoughts.

Update Tue. evening

6:30 Pacific time. A few complications, size of leg veins smaller than expected and some problems with his breathing tube but he has stabilized and the next 24-48 hrs is critical. Thanks to all who responded and prayed. Update if anything changes.

Removed the breathing tube this afternoon and raised the head of his bed up. He is awake enough to recognize voices and faces. Maybe tomorrow up and about. Thanks to all.

Mike, you have asked one of the best groups of folks I know for support... they have been an amazing support to me in my time of need and I know they will be for you as well, whether they post it or not. Your father will have lots of prayers, thoughts, good energy, and angels with him (and you) tomorrow. :)

Sounds a lot like my father inlaw who passed away last week. They must have been a great generation and example.

God bless and prayers sent your way.

Dave

Mike, my Dad had a triple bypass at age 84 and came through with flying colors. That was back in 1989, so he's no longer with us, but it added measurably to his years and his quality of life.

Mike,

My Dad had a quadruple about 6 years ago, and he's still going strong at 89. It's amazing what they can do now. I walked into his room the next day expecting to find tubes coming out of him everywhere, and him comatose, but he was sitting up in bed enjoying breakfast attached to one tube. It was amazing. They had him walking around two days after the operation. Your Dad's going to be fine, Mike, and home before you know it. My thoughts are with you.

God bless and good luck to all.

Good luck to him! I actually work in a cardiovascular recovery unit as a RN so I see people go through this just about every day, and most of them do fine. We aim to have everyone up and walking 1st day post op, along with the chest tubes/lines out but if it takes longer it's usually not a big deal. Getting up and going afterwards is key. Be sure and encourage him constantly to get moving if he can, makes a big difference in recovery time.

They probably have given you guys a lot of info but if you have any questions at all just let me know.

Once again, good luck!

Prayers sent. Like others have posted, it is a serious surgery, but done all the time, and usually with good results. I'm sure with such a large and loving family his odds are already improved by the huge support. Take care of yourself as well; can't have you getting sick just as he needs your support the most.

All the more reason to wish him a successful surgery and many, many more years to enjoy his huge family and the well deserved admiration that comes through in your post!
