One of my customers (from here actually) recently purchased a set of helmet lock brackets from me.

He modded both with "3M Carbon fiber tape". He mentioned it goes on well and isn't expensive.

Looks pretty good too!

I used it around the ignition switch on a Beemer. Easy to apply, looked spiffy, but did not stand-up well to chafing. The carbon fiber look soon was worn away and all that remained was black vinyl. Be selective about where you use it.

 
If you are going to apply it on a surface that is exposed to weather or wear, you may want to apply clear coat. I used 3M carbon fibre tape on the gas tank trim band and the bib fairing behind the front wheel. It looks super torque nero garth!!
