I have been told by a reliable source that chrome is not ok on an FJR. The most the community will stand for is polished Alum or semi-stainless steel.

Is this true?

I hope so, because cleaning a bike beyond removing bugs, dirt grease/oil & debris is wasting precious riding time in my little feeble mind.

You would be correct. Please save the chrome for the HD crowd. Your chroming of bits and pieces will only serve to drive up the price of chrome for the cruiser crowd. Yes, you may polish parts for easier cleanup, etc. But chrome is for the posers, most on the FJR tend to be riders based on the mileages I an seeing piled up on them. I have been accused on several ocassions of keeping my bike "too clean." I think of it as cutting down the wind resistance without having all of those little tiny legs and wings sticking out there creating drag...

;)

It all started when I got new steel braided brake lines on my bike... they put chrome banjos on it... me thinks... ooh lookie, that looks nice! The seed was planted... I got one of those cool Yamaha emblems that goes in the swing arm pivot point & while at it I ordered a polished steel locking oil filler cap.

There are only so many things that can be put on this bike that are shiny/chromed, anyway. That's all I've accessorized with... & to me she looks real purdy. If I was into all that mess about taking my wheels off and polishing them, I'd do it. I've seen it talked about on this forum, a guy posted pikkies of his finished project & I think that it looked awesome! I have no day or night dreams about having a Harley, either (Believe you me... I hate Harleys nor am I a poser) To each her/his own, right?

Frankly, I don't care what others think, anyway. If I were you & you wanted to put something chrome on your bike, I say go for it. Who cares anyway.

JMHO

PS... I've already been teased twice by Feejer people about these 2 little & fairly insignificant things. If you put chrome on prepare to defend yourself.

BULLSHIT!!!!! BULLSHIT!!!! Its your bike, do what you want, and what makes you happy. AS we speak, my plated wheels just came in. Whats the words I'm looking for... o yes..Shit Hot, thats it. I ride my bike hard, and alot. Between 2 bikes over 25,000 in the last 15 months. I to wash after every ride to get the crud off. And I to have had people say crap about it. Who cares, A clean bike is easyer to see problems, oil leaks, stuff like that. I am not "into" every nut , bolt, ect. chromed or polished. But if it looks good, and not to "much". Do it. I will post some pic's of my wheels later. I still have to mount the rubber, replace bearings ect.. :p

I knew Smitty would get in on this one.

I like Harleys and I like chrome. You don't like it, fine. I don't care. Do I have chrome on my FJR? Well, those Wild Bill footpegs are chromed (or polished, heck I dunno). I wasn't looking for chrome, but hey, that's the way it is.

I like shiney, too. Do I polish my bike? Just the windshield. Otherwise I just knock the bugs and crap off occasionally.

Now Smitty is getting those chromed wheels ready for his bike, and I'll bet they look awesome. He has a friend Skinny Dave who has chromed wheels on his sport bike, and they DO look SHIT HOT! Smitty's bike is super clean, an outstanding FJR. I would imagine with the chromed wheels it will be a true stand out. Bet he's not the last guy to do it, either. Isn't that right, Adam?

You want to chrome it up, you go right ahead. More power to you. Some makes for very nice accent. I don't think we will mind.

But I GAHR UN TEE you will get some comments. And they probably won't all be positive. I'll try very hard to keep my mouth shut if I see something I don't like. Perhaps the rest of you should do the same. If you don't have anything nice to say...

BB, We might be forced to withhold the secret feejer handshake from ya and there might be the occasional "So you LIKE those? " comments, but just fuckem dude, its your bike. Our benevolent benefactor and others here think reflectors are gay. Well I live in S. Texas and ANYTHING that makes me better seen in englich or spanglich is good, and I'm not gay...my bike is just happy in a feminine heterosexual way ! So do what ya want brudda ! Its all good !

I gotta disagree here, if we start allowing Chrome, next thing you know, someone's gonna ask about handle bar tassles.

As my forum name indicates, I had a Yamaha Vstar prior to purchasing the FJR last year. On the other cruiser forums I was known as Chromehead, as I did bow before the Gods of Chrome for that nice machine. I was a rider on that bike, not a poser, but damn if it didn't look good with all the shiny doo-dads on it. In tribute to that Vstar, I have installed my cruiser pegs on the FJR highway brackets, replaced the black oil filler cap with the chrome cap from the Vstar, and installed the Cobra/Tanji heel guards from the FJR Tech site https://www.fjrtech.com/getdbitem.cfm?item=44 That's as far as it's going.

Now I seem to be migrating towards a carbon fiber slant on the FJR.... stator cover, FZ-1 mirrors, gas tank fill pieces. Trust me boys, it'll never end.... you'll spend all your money on chrome for the cruiser, and farkles for the FJR.
