You gotta be careful with that stuff. I heard a guy once actually had his FJR turn itself into a Harley one night. He went out to the garage the next morning, and there it was. Imagine the horror. ;) :D

Is this true?
I hope so, because cleaning a bike beyond removing bugs, dirt grease/oil & debris is wasting precious riding time in my little feeble mind.
WOW what a response :D This even got the forum benevolent dictator to chime in :D

But Please read my own qoute above with understanding. I DO NOT want anything chromed on my FJR. The only chrome I can find is those little thingys that go over the handle bar allen bolts. I have a few stainless bits of farkling like a beowolf radiator cover, highway pegs and helmet holder.

I don't understand the anti-Harley comments throughout this forum  I've rented lots of Harleys since 1999 and some of those bikes were fun to putt around on. The key word is putt. Some of the bikes were a POS and broke down during a 4 hour ride so I gave up on Harley ownership. I had a 1985 Suzuki (Crapzuki) Madura 1200 that I was riding, and the 2K Harley technology was so far behind it I was shocked. The Crapzuki had a rice rocket motor that threw spokes off the rear hub, self cancelling turn signals, gear indicator, comfy seat - whoops my FJR doesn't have that stuff either. What is wrong with those motorcycle designers, If Crapzuki could do it in 1985, why cant an '05 have that stuff :D

I don't know where you all might buy your chrome.

My neighbor has a '98 Road King and he is single handedly keeping Mugabe and Putin in power in Zimbabwe and Russia, respectively, what with the chrome mines there. After my neighbor is done, there simply isn't any chrome left in the U S of A.

Hell yes there is! It's on my Road King.

I'm addin' it to my FJR as fast as I can!

Hey, BBIII,

Whatchu got against Suzuski? I got a '79 GS750 with 15K miles on it in 2003 and have riden it 27K miles since then. It broke twice, both times MY fault. The seat is comfortable up to about 300 miles/day.

BUT, and I repeat BUT, I'm getting a 2006 FJR 'long about Xmas time. That's when I'll be able to afford it.

I may be a FNG here on this website but I've been riding motorcycles since I was 16, so I ain't no newby (I'm 57).

Absolutely LOVE the FJR and I'm really glad they didn't make the '06 RED

Er, most of the ancillary chromed parts come from China...

I don't have anything against Suzuki. That 1985 Madura at least got me up on 2 wheels, and is a testament to what could be...but compared to the '05 FJR the thing is a piece of crap except for the auto cancelling turn signals and the gear indicator and the comfy stock seat :p

WTF is wrong with Yamaha, this stuff is basic, no engineering required, right?

I think those Yamaha corporate *******s are in bed with the aftermarket guys so we have to farkle up even the No.1 rated sport touring bike.

Don't tell them that farkling is fun, that would ruin the anticipation of waiting for the UPS truck every day :D

Gulp!, ahh Smitty??? Can we see the chrome wheels??? That would be hot on an FJR!

But I draw the line at the chrome wheels! No chrome studs on the seat, tassels on the handle bars, black leather pannier covers with chrome studs, chrome gauge clusters, chrome engine cases, etc.

But chrome wheels on a blue FJR could look very very cool.... :agree:

I just finished installing the bearings and seals. I would of had the rear tire mounted, but I forgot to pickup new valve stems. I will post some pic's on Thursday afternoon...The plating job looks great, I did have to run a tap though the rotor holes, but that was about it. The chrome shop smoothed the wheels, there is not a # or casting mark. They are as smooth as a used bar of soap. IMO they are going to look very good.

Tomorrow I will mount the rubber, and balance. Install, and stand back and say Wow, thats **** hot.

I'm sure I'll pay for this... BUT... WC's deer slayer has SM pegs that look like they should vibrate. :D

Yeah, what Smitty said. Your bike do it as you wish. My last machine, Yami Warrior was chromed fairly well, and there were all flavors of the guys I rode with, from blacked ou Midnight Warriors to fully chromed EVERYTHING.

Whatever floats your Feejer and suits you, go for it.

Ah, the Bling factor! Hell, if it feels good do it (just don't ride with me).

What the heck is going on? Do we now have "group-think-fashion-police"? It is your FJR, do what you want! If someone doesn't want to ride with you because of what custom featureyou added to your bike, then ride alone. Grow up and be a man! If you like it, just do it! Why do you feel the need to get approval from this group of misfits? :bleh: (Tongue very firmly implanted in cheek)

Jeez, what's next? If you don't wear the gear I think you should you become anathema ? You must wear a full face helmet, or else? You have the wrong brand of boots? Tires? Windshield? Sunglasses? Topcase? Footpegs? Forkbrace? GPS? Handgrips? Wrong year/color?

I assumed (Dangerous, I know!) we were motorcyclists not fashion judges. Okay, as a caveat , he asked for opinions. To quote Andy Griffith, "That was Duh---uhmb!" ;)

I had to take anathema before my colonoscopy.

The starter of the thread shouldn't have to subject himself to such internal abuse. :p :D

Bling has little to do with it. Chrome is (in my opinion) easier to clean and keep clean, and doesn't scratch as easy as paint or SS for that matter. If chrome wheels were a $200-300 option on a new bike, I'd buy 'em just cuz they clean easier. So there!! :bleh:
