Hey Harald, I donno if you know, but the FJR's temp readout bottoms out at 17 degrees, so it coulda been colder.
I know exactly where it bottoms out at:

Photo taken last winter on my FJR on an evening where the temps were actually in the lower teens. I feel ripped off! :( LOL

I cut foam blocks and plugged the "hood scoops" under the shield which stops a nasty breeze that come thru the grill under the dash and blows up under your chin...

At least Top Speed's poor girl was trying to stay warm with her fuzzy blue sweater.

This chickie has bare midriff, gauzey shirt and hardly any hair on her head. It's almost like... she wanted to have papilar erections!

Not that there would ever be anything at all wrong with that. Oh no...

Just leave the bike sitting out in the sun so the LCD goes black and you'll never notice it. :p

After 20 years riding a C-10 Concours with Baker Built Air Wings, I'm really noticing how much less wind protection there is on the FJR now that it is getting cooler. My '06 came with an over sized windshield, of unknown manufacture, and I've added V-strom handguards. Combined with my old insulated Gerbings Jacket Liner, my upper body is comfortable although I've yet to ride in temperatures below 40 degrees. So that is not much of a test.

The thing I'm noticing most is the turbulent air hitting my knees and the top of my thighs. It appears that turbulent air is coming across the colored horizontal surfaces of the upper fairing directly aft of the black battery cover and glove box surround. I was wondering if the Baker Built Hand Wings would be effective in blocking that air flow? If it would then the question becomes do my driving lights create a problem in mounting the Hand Wings?

Here are some photos showing my driving lights and the over sized windshield. Can anyone identify the windshield?

As you can see from this closeup there are no markings to identify the windshield

Plenty of markings - Wind Shield slightly ghetto - matches the FYYFF sticker perfectly!

Have you tried putting the cowlings in their outer position? Some riders say they do something, others say they don't, but worth a try if you haven't.

So you're saying that, since I don't like cats very much, I should use the Comic San MS font more often to keep their population in check?

That whole Ban Comic Sans movement is so turn of the century. The originators have moved on to the Department of Public Words campaign...

...anyone use non vehicle, battery powered vests or jackets or socks even ?....seems my pacer/defib won't tolerate electric clothing per se...or lincoln arc welders or ducati 916 coils or most higher powered auto and aircraft engines...all the latter i found out through research and non-developement..but as an ee i can't figure out why and they ( boston scientific ) won't get technical.....i'm not THAT type of dr....but of course if its gynecological, well, i could take a looksee...anyway any 9v users and abusers out there ?...i want to hit the lower mountains but i'm only sorta in charge of my organs and stuff and the cold can do strange things to electronics and limbs and such....where the hell is tesla ?!

I always found that 45 minutes was the critical point on cold weather rides. That was the point where I realized whether my gear was adequate for conditions and you would feel a penetrating cold to your core if not.

Since my daily commute used to take about 30 minutes I could get away with gear that would not have been sufficient for longer rides.

Possible icy patches kept me from commuting more than low temps and my bike didn't even have a fairing.

Bobby,

I am surprised that the 12V DC heated gear would caused problems with your pacemaker. What model Boston Scientific have you got? I could maybe look up some info for you.

The only "electrical impulses" are from the controller, which just turns the heat on and off at about a 1 Hz rate with varying "on" time depending on the control dial setting. If you had it on 100% there would only be one pulse when you turn the thing on,

But if it does bother your device, then I'd expect for the battery powered ones to have the same effect. Only difference is 9V vs 12V. The heating element current (and EMF radiated) should be fairly similar, maybe somewhat lower power to conserve the battery, but you need a certain amount of wattage for them to work..
