Without going off on TOO much of a political trail, there was a story on the national news today where some people rescued 3 children trapped in a car that went into a river near Logan, Utah.

One of the rescuers, interviewed on the "today" show, used a hand gun to blow out a window and save the kids... His dad, on the today show, said:

"Chris has always been one who has been prepared," Bruce Willden told TODAY of his son. "He never leaves the house when he doesn't have with these three items with him: A firearm, and a knife, and a portable flashlight."

I bet it must have been SO HARD for NBC to have to include that detail and let that deranged redneck appear on their show :huh: ... Gun saves kids... I'm sure some of the powers that be were pissed off to no end hearing that on good old NBC :D

Germany had big *** rail guns in WW2 https://user.mc.net/hawk/biggun.htm
The rail guns we are talking about use a linear motor made from super conductor magnets to accelerate the projectiles.

You can't mount these on a Gen I however since the girly man stator in those antiques can barely power up a sparkplug never mind a rail gun or a laser cannon.

BUT, what if I have the electrojunk stator. Can I get off one shot before it smokes :eek:

Not my words, but thought this would be appropriate in this thread. BTW, I'm a M1911 kinda guy.

Some words to the wise. Shooting Advice from various Conceal Carry Instructors. If you own a gun, you will appreciate this.If not, you should get one and learn how to use it:

• Guns have only two enemies – rust and politicians.

• It’s always better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

• Cops carry guns to protect themselves, not you.

• Never let someone or something that threatens you get inside arm’s length.

• Never say "I've got a gun". If need to use deadly force, the first sound they hear should be the safety clicking off.

• The average response time of a 911 call is 23 minutes, the response time of a .357 is 1400 feet per second.

• The most important rule in a gunfight is: Always win - cheat if necessary.

• Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets . . . You may get killed with your own gun, but he'll have to beat you to death with it, ‘cause it'll be empty.

* If you're in a gun fight:

* If you're not shooting, you should be loading.

* If you're not loading, you should be movin’,

* If you're not movin', you're dead.

• In a life and death situation, do something . . . It may be wrong, but do something!

• If you carry a gun, people call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you have a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about?

• You can say 'stop' or 'alto' or any other word, but a large bore muzzle pointed at someone's head is pretty much a universal language.

• You cannot save the planet, but you may be able to save yourself and your family. ;)

• Never let someone or something that threatens you get inside arm’s length.
change that to 21 feet. never let a threat get within 21 feet since it's proven that it takes less than a second-and-a-half for a determined attacker to close that distance. consider 21 feet the same as grappling distance.

I used to hang around cops quite a bit when I was a prosecutor and they said that if you're 10 feet apart or less and can choose your weapon, knife wins over gun at that distance. It's also why a lot of them wear metal chest plates in addition to kevlar--an ice pick, sharp knife or arrow from a bow can go right through a kevlar vest.

You're refering to the "Tueller drill" which very basically states that a gun should not be in the holster if an attacker with an edged weapon is within 21ft. That distance has recently been changed to 30ft, and there is still the very valid argument that there is a huge difference between having a firearm at a "low-ready" or "on target" and having a firearm still in the holster.

If a person shoots an edged weapon or blunt object threat who is 30, or 21 feet away, they are gonna run into huge legal issues. However, if a person lets someone get within 30ft of them and they have not decided to deploy their firearm, they just may end up dead.

Now, as always, I will say this: If you carry a firearm for personal protection, and you do not practice with it almost daily, you do not practice enough. Practice consists of draws, reloads, malfunction clearance, movement, dry fire and live fire. Shooting is a very perishable skill, and just knowing how do it does not mean a person can do it under stress. Real life is not like the movies. Practice people...Practice.

Excellent advice -- thank you, 'Zilla. While I'm regularly shooting a Sig replica blowback airsoft pistol and a pellet rifle (probably every other day), I had a 3 month hiatus before going to the range a couple weeks ago for 100 rounds of .40 practice with the P-229. Overall, pretty good results, but my suckage was during the first 20 rounds, and I was only shooting controlled, target style from a modified Weaver stance. Your advice here rang true then -- in a life and death, adrenalin fueled confrontation, the skills would have to be there immediately (not 20 rounds later), and what I was doing was a poor approximation of combat shooting. Looking forward to the 4 day course in Nevada in March with CAJW. Meanwhile, I WILL practice more.

Any chance this course is taught by Front Sight?
Yep, waiting for it has me excited like a kid at Christmas. Even more good news is I have a neighbor who lives 3 miles away who has offered me an open invitation to shoot at his private 40 acre range just about anytime I want! :yahoo:

I took a 4 day class with these guys back in the mid 90's. Still in beautiful Hot Bakersfield at that time.

Think it was July. 10 to 12 hour days. Did I mention Hot. Outstanding course. Have fun.

I understand your excitement.

Ok, I watched the video and I'm still not sure...does it fire both rounds at once?! It looks like the hammer strikes both bullets to me.
"...sequentially fired mechanical trigger system..." Means it fires one barrel at at time, probably very similar to an over-under shotgun. You are right though. In the video, it looks like it fires both pins at once. I would bet the second barrel is either recessed or blocked when the first one is fired.
