When do we get hard specs on the new Concours??? Really need to know about power, etc. before getting too excited.

I'm not getting excited about the new connie, don't get me wrong, I like Kawasaki, I have a nice little vulcan I ride for commuting and I like it alot.

However once in a while you get one that JUST FITS, and for me thats the FJR. I'll be riding this bike till the wheels fall off.

Come on Groo give it up! Deleted ain't fair to those who want to know!

That horrible can would have to be the first thing to go....

I have sat on a ZX14 - felt very nice.

I hear they go like stink, especially if the throttle bodies/whatever are modded...
And hey, you know you'll be able to get a turbo for it since it's brother is the ZX14

I hope the wheels fall of when you aren't riding it!

The current Rider magazine FJR vs. BMW sport-touring article mentioned they would have included the new Kawi, but a test bike wasn't available. (They also said they didn't even consider the Honda ST1300...no recent changes.) Even though the FJR "won" the Rider comparo hands-down, there'll be plenty of other cycle mag sport-touring shoot-outs in the coming months.

I think Kawasaki sees the aging m/c population and our growing desire for do-it-all solutions (sport-touring bikes, flip-up helmets, Viagra), and know that imitation (of the class-leading FJR) is the sincerest form of flattery.

That said, Kawi better stop talking about their new Concours, and start letting people actually ride it.

I'm not going to waste my time going to the Cycle World show just to see one up on a pedestal. Until I can sit on one, and maybe ride it, I'll admire them for free from this here chair in my bedroom, then go ride reality.

I too am considering the move from an FJR to a Concours 14 based on the preliminary information. I am curious regarding your gas mileage comment: how does the mileage of your ZX14 compare to that of your FJR in similar conditions. I had attributed the reports of poor mileage on the ZX 14 (including my brother's) to rider's inability to resist the immense power on tap, and would love to know what the ZX 14 will get at a steady 70 MPH. Thanks in advance.
The variable valve timing, not to mention the low end tuning will probably have a very significant effect on the fuel economy, so I would not base your fuel economy estimates solely on the zx-14. Fuel economy will probably be significantly better if they can keep the weight down and the shaft drive low loss (yeah, not likely, i know).

I gues I have no right to bring this up given how few miles I clock but...

I just don't get the MPG cpncerns on any MC. It is a vehicle driven for fun, so who cares?!? And those that commute, if it is the highest MPG you are seeking, get a scooter. What is the real diff between 36 and 42 MPG, anyway??

Too funny, BD! :yahoo: I have a friend who would drive 20 miles to save 1 cent per gallon. Erm, 5 gallon tank...burn 1/2-3/4 gallon to save $.04...ooookkkaaaayyyy! We're all just wired a little differently. :dribble:

@ the Toronto show the bike was up on a pedestal, yet the Kawasaki representatives were letting any one who wanted to sit on it do so....just ask huron52....he did  ....

+1 Maaan.

I do care about mileage, but not when mounting my two-wheeled steed. Our reliance on oil from bad *** countries is not good, but even at 30mpg I'm doing better than the vast majority of cagers. Hell, the worst tank I ever got on the feejer was about 27mpg, but that was cruisin' at a steady 120mph in North Dakota...still double my S4 mpg!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get a prius with four wheels and your favorite steed for fun! :yahoo:

it's the difference between 7 gas stops and 5 gas stops on a BBG. at an average of 15 minutes each (when was the last time you stopped for gas, water, and a pee in that time or less?), that's 30 minutes you've saved in by doing nothing more than picking the bike with a little better MPG. For those who take longer at each stop, then the time savings will be even greater.

Uh oh. Don't tell me we're losing Tom to Kawasaki. B)

I can't wait for the Connie to hit the showroom.

I am hoping enough people with deep pockets will be shedding their 06 FJRs so that I can find a deal.
