I seem to recall a video recently, where a bug splatted on a guy's face causing an accident. It was his fault for not having his visor closed, so I guess He is a burdun on our society.......

Ah...are you saying that I am going to crash? Dang...I better stay inside then.

Just ride in your living room... back and forth from the fridge to the couch... gives a new perspective to beer run, don't it...

Lone star?....I'm drinking milwaukees best. Want to count any of the other crashes that weren't caused by celebrities?
Oh, I forgot about the chik in the dfw area that houses dudes that need a place to stay and she gives them free beer....forgot her name, though.
That's what I thought. OK, I think your creel is full. ;)

Hey, you got a point there....heck...I'm giving you four points...bet ya that mikeh wouldn't give you four for that. But, hey....who's counting?

hell he's halfway there...the engine's already in the kitchen.

Yes, it was his admitted fault for not having the shield closed: "... I ****** up..." He could have been a burden had he not been helmeted and fully ATAGATT. As it is, he was unhurt and you're twisting the point.

Let's not go there, fjrchik....I still haven't brought my frame into the living room yet.

Apparently, I just don't get it. Otherwise, this isn't politcal....we are talking about insurance premiums. And I am saving all you folks money by not crashing my scoot and banging up my head....I just want some payback for that. It's easy...I don't crash and I get a big fat check for not raising your premiums. Checks are welcome and hatemail will be responded too. Just leave a return addy.....lol

I likey the way you thinky...sounds bloody good to me....now where has that beer gone...

Apart for the Organ Donor Title and the "leave them on the side of the road" comments I recon he is bang on...Fools like that do cost you and me **** loads of medical capital spent on these ******s who think only about them selves.
Fine ride without a helmet you selfish **** (Sic) whether your fault or not you will increase the medical cost in repairing you (if they can) without a helmet exponentially, and thems the facts....not to mention you have the potential to leave behind you family or friends or have them care for you for the rest of your vegetative life...Yeah but don't let that bother you your right to wear or not wear a helmet is far more important!

Yes it ******* annoys the **** out of me.

Cheers

ahh that feels better...

no offense, but obesity costs ME and YOU much more than helmetless riders. Now, go exercise and save me $$$$

I don't think he is twisting the point at all.

I think it is an EXCELLENT example.

If the damage to the bike is turned into his insurance company then it is certainly going to increase insurance costs just like any other "accident". If he had broken bones or whatever it would increase medical costs.

You know, "accidents" are called that for a reason.... The fact that someone made a poor decision (whether it was to ride without a helmet or to ride with his visor up) that led to the accident or made the consequences worse always seems to be either ignored or blown out of proportion depending on your point of view.

I seem to remember the Hurt Report many many years ago studying helmets in motorcycles crashes coming to the conclusion that helmet use did not really save LIVES. Helmet use certainly saved certain injuries but many times there were "multiple" causes for death in a severe motorcycle accident and just having a helmet on did not really improve the likelyhood of surviving a crash per se. A little bit of warped logic in a way but it does make the point that not all injuries in motorcycle accident are helmet preventable.

My other rant on this same topic is the sport of snowmobiling where helmet use is virtually 100% just due to the cold. Yet, people constantly kill themselves on sleds. There have been as many as 40 fatalities a winter in Michigan alone. Helmet use seems to have no effect on fatalities. And insurance costs for sleds are OUTRAGEOUS because of all the yoyos crashing their sleds trying to be a snowcross star on the trail and then turning the damage in to the insurance company which costs me plenty in turn.

Wonder if David E thinks all sledders should be left to freeze/bleed to death in the ditch when they crash or is it OK to send the rescue squad since they were wearing helmets?

What a buttmonkey........and a dweeb.
Hey...!!!....I resemble that...!!!

I know I'm a dweeb...but, a buttmonkey? Come on.....lololol

Hey....!!!...I thought he was talking about ME???

I likey the way you thinky...sounds bloody good to me....now where has that beer gone...

Yea...and alcohol and drinking and beer....look at how much THAT costs us all in medical costs and traffic accidents and unplanned pregnancies. Leave all the alcoholics lying in the ditch with the cirrocis of the liver. :D :D :D

Jestal....feel better now....maybe you should just relax....get out your sniper rifle....& go bean afew cagers  ....that way you'll get it all out of your system :D .....(teasing)....or maybe go hunting Davis's....ya...ya...that's it...... :)

Yeah, he is. Doing what we were originally discussing - riding without a helmet - is tantamount to playing chicken with the 4:00 express. Accidents do happen, you are 100% correct in that regard. Doing stupid **** is what I thought we were discussing.

Anyway, we can go 'round on this one forever. So, let's just say I'm right about this one and you'll never see me argue you on oil or coolant or other engineering type ****, k?

And the moral to this story is:

Excercise your personal freedom to/not wear a helmet and open/or close the visor should you so choose, BUT always watch for the old lady who will cut you off, go home that night, and be forgotten for causing you pain, because you were on a bike.

twn is right...I am twisting it...to my angle. But, I am not playing chicken with the 4:00 express...not yet...that sounds like fun.... :p

Screw that! The little old ladies round these parts are frickin' loaded (odot, that means rich, not drunk). I'm looking for one in her chauffeur driven Bentley to knock me on my ass so I can sue her 'til her heirs scream, 'Stop! Uncle!' Hopefully, my insurance derived windfall won't affect anyones else's pocketbooks. ;)

I ride sled in upper MI too, and I've noticed the same deal. Maybe that's why folks who don't live in the snowbelt are so infatuated with the supposed power of the helmet - they don't get to witness the annual winter carnage of all the helmeted sled riders. Maybe it's better for them that way. They can ride around convinced that they're protected, unaware of the somewhat gruesome reality.

Oh, and one other point about Ben. It is entirely possible that his injuries could have been worse had he worn a helmet. Depending on how he impacted the windshield of that car, the chin bar of a full face lid might have forced his head back, severing his spinal cord and rendering him paralyzed. It's happened before. Now if Ben had a choice between a smashed face and paralysis, guess which one he'd choose? Of course, there's no way to prove that a helmet would have caused paralysis, just a possibility in this particular case. Once again, point is that accidents are unpredictable and so is the result of wearing a lid.

There is WAY to much competition over who whats to be the buttmonkey around here.
